No it is "www.usdieselparts.com", I think it is made by Banks,
you have to get the exhaust brake, and then the "Auto-Loc" for the automatic torque converter.

Waynem, where? Can you post a phone number Or is that the labor charge after you have hardware in hand? I talked to my favorite parts girl, and ...... well, if you've got a legit price there, I'll buy two or three.

It was a while back that I had my Exhaust break put in by my dealer, So there could definately be a difference in price now ?????

I would call one of them and ask,
Also Banks makes some after market units !!!
I understand they are not that hard to install, but I wanted to make sure the brake was under my extended dealer warranty with them.

Yeah, I called before I posted the earlier note. The price has gone up...... She was the one who told me to get a couple-three.

Did a dealer tell you this about the factory installed Exhaust Brake?

He didn't happen to give you an estimated cost did he?

Very interesting...

Thanks,

I think he said that it would be a little cheaper, but not much, but atleast if there wqas a problem with it, that would make it covered by the 7 year warrenty too!!!

Well, I'm not sure what the going rate is today for an Exhaust brake. All I am saying is that it sure made a big difference in my truck and the way it handled the hills. I am sure the unit is cheaper to buy from somebody like Bank's then to have the dealer put it in. But at the time I wanted to have the unit covered under my 7 yr/100k warranty. So I went with the dealer. Now that I have used up the 100k warranty, I will be looking at the after market goodies for the truck.

I just feel that D/C should include the Exhaust Brake with the diesel engines when they sell them.
1. It is a safety enhancement to the truck.
2. It saves wear and tear on the brakes.
3. It should bring up the amount of weight that the truck can legally handle.

But at the least the dealer or D/C should at least include it in the TOWING PACKAGE for the truck. They put in things like an oil cooler in that, so they should also include the exhaust brake, which I would think would be viewed more because it is a safety enhancement to the towing package.

As far as the Automatic's,
Bank's has the item that goes on the torque converter unit, when the Exhaust brake goes on, the Bank's unit makes the torque converter lock up so it will not freewheel, and then it passes the torque to the engine, so the engine can then brake the momentum. Without the Torque converter attachment, the Automatic transmission torque converter would just free wheel and you would be in deep trouble braking. I understand that this Torque converter unit also helps while pulling the load also. It locks it up and provides more torque through the converter than if it ran normal.

This would be a great item for all those pulling the horse trailers or motor homes that don't or can't drive a stick shift !!!!

My stock clutch started slipping a bit on long, hard, full power hills at 22,000 miles with my 9'10" Lance camper on board. You can see my mods in my signature, and they were installed by the dealer before I picked the truck up. I've also blocked the wastegate to give 30 psi at full power. I do NOT slip the clutch or ride it. Put in the South Bend recommended for my rig, (can't remember - Con something or somesuch) and have 33,000 miles on it now with no problems. My concern at this point is that the pedal is getting very high and I'm concerned about it not fully engaging at some point. I'm also told there is no adjustment. What to do ?? Is it possible to grind something shorter, or something ??

Everything else is still stock untouched, I have nothing bad to say about this truck, i will buy another one just like this one.
97k and only 6 months old! You must be working on making the million mile club at a record pace. How do you have time to post replies to threads?
PM: That's averaging more than 542 miles/day with no days off! That's gotta hurt.
