we have a 2006 Dodge Ram 3500 thunderroad dually , with a bullydog programer set to performance, pulling an 8k 40ft gooseneck trailer.
Pulling empty we have been averaging 10.5 to 11 mpg.
Pulling fully loaded 20k on trailer + 8k trailer weight averaging 7 to 8 mpg.
Does this seem pretty standard for you guys pulling the similar standards.
Any advice and any suggestions to help increase fuel mileage would be supper. Have heard of guys getting 10 to 11 pulling the fully loaded weights just want to know if anyone here can confirm.

 

OUCH. I am pulling a 37' high profile fifth wheel weighing in at 16,000 pounds. I average 12.7 mpg on my long trips. And, yes, it has been verified multiple times manually over many thousands of miles, not just one tank (so we can cool the heels of "those that know" - - LOL).

answered this in the other section already but thats what i get running the same weights in my 06. i have drw 4x. 4 6spd, the 03 i had got great mileage but the 06 and the 07 dont. the 07 does now because they replaced the tranny with the one that has the higher overdrive ratio

 

Pulling a 36 foot goosneck neck flatbed with triple tandem duals round trip from ND to Texas my truck averaged 14.1mpg
Fully loaded any where from 8.5-10

Srw, 2500, 4x4, quad cab, 3.73, 4 speed auto, towing 9k fiver rv @70mph in flat FL I get 11mpg - on a good day. pcm

 

My fiver probably weighs in around 8000 fully loaded. And I pulled down 13 mpg on the last trip if I ran 63ish or so. 11.7 mpg was the lowest when trying to run 70 down 65 highway through Arkansas.

 

I have 3.73 gears. The truck tires helped the interstate mileage mainly because of the low G56 OD. Also the 22.5's don't squat down on a heavy load.
The lockout hubs,TST,and Twin turbos All helped.

 

that's about what I see ,I tow almost the same loads I get 13-15 towing my trailer empty ,and depending on the road (UP/DOWN)about 9, dropping the gvw makes a big diff. to a point ,.

 

yea but the 22.5 change the ratio to a higher number, cuz i bet at 70 your rpm is not at 2300 or so

 

Around 14 with the '96 towing the 7,000lb TT if I keep speed below 65. If I run 65-70 then MPG drops down to 12.5-13. This was calculated over a 1,000 mile trip on multiple tanks. 3.50 gears in rear.

 

80 mph is about 2100

 

I just got 15.8 hand calc. for 550 miles with my new racecar gooseneck. Tandem 9000 pounds across the scales.
Towing at 60 mph as much as possible. Smarty on #3.

 

Mostly depends on terrain. My Desert Fox 5er weighs in at 12,500 loaded. On the interstate relatively flat I can muster 12-13 mpg. Now with a nice mountain pass or STRONG head wind I will easily drop into the single digits.

 

then you must have something like a 3:42 or so cuz at 80 i'm at about 2500
