4500kg

I discovered that the 4500kg (9920lb) limit for commercial vehicles to report to the weigh scale when lights flash means the GVWR of the truck whether it's pulling a trailer or not and whether it's loaded or not. The 4th gen 3500 SRW is 10100lbs GVWR that means it has to report when the lights are flashing. Last Friday one of the guys from my sons company was chased down by the weight guys for not stopping at a recently reopened weigh station. They took him back and weighed him then did an inspection. Luckily I'm not commercial but I often look commercial and pass that weigh station often, it has been closed for a long time while it had a make over, now it's open again I'll have to make sure I have all documentation to prove I'm NOT commercial.

So let me get this straight a non commercial registered vehicle with a build weight of higher than 4500 kg is being stopped by AB commercial enforcement officers, just a note farm vehicles are commercial registered vehicles and will be recognized as such if you use them as a farm tax deduction for business.

No.. they are commercial, I am not but I often look commercial if I'm towing one of my personal trailers. The 4th gen 3500 SRW with a GVWR of 10100lbs is over the 4500kg and even unloaded would be required to stop if commercial and lights flashing where before they just usually drive by if not loaded or not towing.

I just got a letter from Alberta Transportation, stating my 2012, 3500 with a 4585KG GVW, requires a safety inspection and sticker, if I plan on taking it out of the province. I might take my custom plate, off my 2006 Mega Cab, into the registrar office, transfer it to the new 2012, and license it at 4500KG, like my 2006 3500 Quad Cab. I wonder if that would make them go away.

I think to register a truck for something other than the GVWR on the door you have to be "commercial" and run a log book. Might want to ask at a weigh scale though.
