Does the height of a 4x4 pose a problem with goose necks? I don t want to raise a 44+ ft goose neck to clear the bed....Is a 4x4 to high with out raising the trailer somwhow?<br><br>The trailer(s) in question are race car trailers...40 to 48 ft.,lounge and 2 cars....<br>

Hay I pull a 53 ft gooseneck an a 36ft 5er with my 3500 4x4 an have no trouble, I would never flip the axles in my opinion that makes the center of gravity way to high.<br> Bob

 

Some pre 2000 (or around there) goosenecks pose a problem with the modern &quot;heavy&quot; and &quot;super&quot; trucks with taller deck and deeper bed rail heights. <br><br>These &quot;style&quot; of trucks appeared in the late 1990's (of course we know who) and it took a couple to 4 years for the manufacturer's to update their trailer designs.<br><br>Most nationwide trailer manufacturer's do offer &quot;modification kits&quot; which will raise the belly clearance of the trailer and also raise the gooseneck. Typically this is done with spaces between the axles and springs and also larger diameter tires. Effectively raising a trailer about 2-4&quot; and not much more. <br><br>The rule of thumb for goosenecks is the top of bed rail to bottom of gooseneck frame (the lowpoint) should be at least 6&quot;. 9-12&quot; is preferred so you dont either damage your truck bed rails or the gooseneck frame. Depending on how you encroach one or the other will get the brunt of the damage.<br><br>The reason for raising the trailer in lieu of simply raising the goosneck hitch is so you have the proper angle from the front to rear as not to overload the rear most axle.<br><br>

 

1320<br>Generally the flatbed type gn will have a little more clearance due to the way the neck comes over the bed. The trailers such as most horse trailers with a tack room up front, usually have a straighter neck and are closer to the bed rails.<br>Gonna install a hitch in a freinds 03 3500 4x4 soon, and will see how it hooks up to my Shelby.<br>fwiw<br>wk

More modern gooseneck trailers will not have a problem because they are higher up in the goose section. My truck and trailer has 7 inches of clearance with no problems.
