Question 2006 MegaCab

I have a 36-foot Hitchhiker 5th Wheel, three slides, that I currently pull with a Ford 1-ton dually Powerjoke. Would the new '06 MegaCab, 1-ton short bed pull this large 5th wheel, or do I need to stick with a dually? I'd love to have the larger MegaCab, but don't want it to be unstable on the road.

Not sure on that but I am going to wait for the long bed dually mega cab. It should do it though.

2" lift

Got a 2" lift on front. Makes it look a little that way.

Looking at the above picture I would stick with your Ford Jerry. Ford has had the "king" of cabs for years. What's in the mega cab that you can't get with the blue oval, or is it the allure of the Cummins that's making you look toward a Dodge? If I knew my way around a ford/powerstroke like I do the Dodge I would have one.

1320 you would lose the bet.

My tires are rated at 3195 per tire and my rear weighs 5660#

That's the main thing I was worried about was the stability without the duals. I really like the Ford crew cab, the way it drives and rides. It is beautiful, with the King Ranch leather. But I had a '96 Cummins 1-ton dually, and I really liked the way it pulls way better than the Ford. And I think Cummins will keep on pulling without the service problems that I'm afraid the Powerstroke may give. If you look at the Powerstroke site, they are giving a lot of problems, especially the new 6.0 engines. Also, the Powerstroke doesn't jump when you give it the gas like a Cummins will.

I have a 36.5 Fleetwood Triumph 5th wheel, my
truck is a 2004.5 2500 dodge cummins srw. My wife, two 100lb dogs (labs) and I just completed a two week trip, from ct, to disney and back. Only mod on my truck
is airbags. We had absolutely no trouble at all.

Jerry - I wouldn't want to pull your 5'er with any shortbed truck. A buddy of mine has a shorter 5'er than mine. He went from a '98 gasser Dodge to a 2004 CTD jockey cab shortbed. He's a smart guy too. But the 1st or 2nd time he pull his 5'er, he put it in the rear window. That was several thousand dollar repair.

I love mine, I can twist around any ole how I want to and don't have to worry about getting the trailer into the truck. I'd stick to a dually with that big of a trailer too.

DanTana - Your truck looks like its getting owned by your trailer.

I have seen pictures of dually megacabs with a short box. They look weird, but if you need the weight rating. i have also read that they are coming out with a megacab long box soon. That is going to be one looooong truck, I would love to have one.

Oh, I'm just funnin! Meaning your truck appears to be struggling to hold up the weight of your 5'er.

Have you ever ran it up on a CAT Scale with the 5'er? Is a 3/4 ton's GVWR still 8,800#? If so, I bet you're nearly 1,500# over your GVWR.

I ain't startin' no GVW war. Cause I tow over GVWR (~500#), but if I were you, I'd weigh it if you haven't, and consider a DRW 1 ton with a camper that size. Otherwise, be as careful as you can. I bet yours is like mine, and feels great and stable while towing. And I've been considering a DRW for 4 years. I've only got about 4 more years to consider it before I'm eligible for a new truck. I told myself I'm keeping my truck for 10 years at least. As good as mine tows overweight, I've got 4 years left. Good luck with yours.
