2001 Factory Tow Mirrors
I was thinking of changing the regular mirrors on my truck for the factory towing mirrors (can't see around the gooseneck) But before I spend all that money I wanted to ask a couple of questions.
Do the tow mirrors for the 2001 fold up like the 2003's? Do they come with the power/heated option? (that's what the truck has now) Last but not least, has any body changed theirs that can tell me how hard it is and the appox. cost?
Thanks,
Dave

Mav,
Try this link Mirror Conversion. (Thanks to member Rob Thomas for this link). This link discusses how to install 03' power/heated tow mirrors on 2nd gen trucks (I don't believe the 01 tow mirrors are power/heated, I know my 02's are not). You have to have the base for the trailer tow mirrors already though (doesn't sound like your truck currently has them).

I am in the process of doing it to my truck. The switch came in last night but no mirrors from dodge. I will keep you all posted and will show some pics of it being done.

Re:2001 Factory Tow Mirrors
Mav, I just went through this. The factory does not offer tow mirrors with power/heat for the 2001. You can do the base swap like hotdram indicated, but since I also had the standard power/heated mirrors I would have had to buy both versions of the tow mirrors. The price would have been more than aftermarket mirrors. I settled on the **** extendable tow mirrors with power/heat. They are a full 10x10 which allow me to see the pavement behind the passenger wheel and still see the traffic behind me as well. I have not towed with them yet but did extend them once to see how they did, and it looked like they were going to work really well. Best of all it took about 30 min to do both and only cost about 375.

Re:2001 Factory Tow Mirrors
I don't have any pictures handy of my truck, I'll try to post some later. In the mean time you can go to http://www.stylinconcepts.com/parts....CategoryID/264 and it will take you to the place I ordered them from.
FYI - I just noticed, for some reason it only shows a listing up to '01. I thought the '02s were the same base and it changed in '03?

Re:2001 Factory Tow Mirrors
I also have the ****'s just like royB... ;D They are schweeet for towing... I like them way better than the NON-power/heated factory tow mirrors and I really didn't want to "attempt" converting my old factory power/heated with the factory non-power/heated mirrors. That's a mouthful to type... anyhow it seemed like a PITA so I went with the *****. Plus I found out the factory is like an hour away from me...

Re:2001 Factory Tow Mirrors
Well that really stinks > I prefer the looks of the factory mirrors over the ford style. but, oh well. royB, how are the quality of the **** mirrors? The plastic looks kind of brittle :-
Thanks again,
Dave

Re:2001 Factory Tow Mirrors
I think the quality of the mirrors is good. They are heavy gauge plastic, and it does not seem brittle at all. Also, mine do not vibrate any more than the originals at highway speeds. Granted I have only had them just over a month but I am very pleased so far.

Re:2001 Factory Tow Mirrors
I changed out my power/heated syandard mirrors with the non-power/heated tow mirrors. The change was easy and took less than 30 minutes for both sides. The do fold in just like the standard mirror. I thought I would really hate not having powered mirrors, but find it not to be that big of a problem. I figure if I get sick of them I can buy a set of 2003s and do the base swap.
I would go with the Dodge mirrors, very sturdy and look right on the truck. My 2cents

sdscuba,
If you don't mind me asking what did you end up paying for them?
Thanks,
Dave
