Re:19.5 tires

Can you provide some more detail as to how the trailer is tasking your truck to its limits?

If your truck is having a difficult time pulling the current set up due to insufficient power, I would think increasing the over all tire/wheel size would only make it worse.

Rich.
Re:19.5 tires

I ordered a set of 19.5" wheels from Ricksontruck.com about 1 1/2 weeks ago. I want more reserve weight capacity than I can get from a reasonably sized 16". Load range D give weight limits of around 3300-3400 lbs at 65 psi. For more capacity, in E, F, or G rating, you have to go with a 225 tire, which - in my opinion - makes the late model 4x4 2500 look like it's riding on a roller skate. The 245-70R19.5 is 33.5" tall, almost 10" wide, with a lower sidewall, and carries higher pressure, for less sidewall flexing, and is a load range G, with a rating of 4540 lbs for a SRW. I won't be using all that capability, but it's nice to know that the tires will be loafing instead of straining - especially here in the desert in the summertime. I also checked out Stockton Wheel in Stockton, CA, but they weren't able to get me wheels before I go on vacation. Lar.

Re:19.5 tires

I have never seen a 225 g rated tire. Generally they only make the heavyist tires in a 235/85 tire which is just about 31 inches. Depending on the company some run up to 32 inches. With a g rated tire I don't know how you could overload the rear axle with a 5er. The empty 2500 axle weight is about 2250 and you can go to 7500 with g rated tires. I ran over 100,000 miles pulling up to 31,000 on g rated Goodyears with single wheels. Never had a tire problem and no sway with the heavy tires. To get overloaded with the g rated tires your trailer would have to be over 20,000 pounds. Most are not.

Re:19.5 tires

Yah, I'm really pawing the dirt over these. I leave on vacation in 10 days, and am hoping Heather emails me VERY soon to tell me the wheels are on the way. Then I'll call the local dealer and have him get the tires ordered. Change the oil, align the front end, and hit the road - for 9 glorious weeks. You Bet - I'll put pics up as soon as the wheels and tires are mounted.
