No one forced you to pay those high prices, as a consumer it is up to you to shop around for the best prices. Buying low and selling high is legitimate business in this country and absolutely nothing wrong with that.

Do I like paying the high prices many dealers charge? NO! but that doesn't make them thieves. Like it or not, every single retailer out there does it and you either buy the stuff or you don't, trashing a company on this forum just because you feel you paid to much is not acceptable behavior.

For them to charge 50% over MSRP is not alright
Thanks

It's called free enterprise. They can charge what they want. You can choose to buy, or not.

They didn't do anything wrong, if they choose to sell for 300% over MSRP (manufacturers SUGGESTED Retail Price) that is their prerogative, nothing wrong with it.

Here in America you have choices, one of those choices is to shop elsewhere if you do not like the prices. If they refunded your money as you say then you really have nothing to complain about Don't you think?

If you only knew how few pennies most restaraunts have in the softdrinks or tea you buy, you would boycott them in a heartbeat!!!! and at 50% markup you'd think it would be a bargain! I had a friend in the restaraunt business and they had less than $.10 per drink. That included cup, straw, lid, ice, and yup.........cola/tea/whatever. Like has been said, said again, and said in a different way......free enterprise......can't blame a guy for making money. Everyone does it in their own way. Some just try to make all their money off of one customer. Again, it's already been said before, you just have to make the effort to be an informed customer and choose who you spend your hard earned dollars with. This isn't the place to air out your indifferences with some peoples business practices.

I had a dealer try to rape me on the price of an item because he knew my truck was broke down until I got the part. Thanks to RatlRatl I already knew the actual list price and called the dealer on it. He ended up giving me the list price. He too was trying to charge me 150% of list. I can understand the frustration of being hosed on the price....
I have been in retail for many years now. I don't recall ever selling for more than list just because I thought I could get away with it. I have some morals. I have charged list price on many occasions even though I could have discounted the items though. Sometimes I don't like the persons attitude and sometimes I'm just not in a giving mood. I don't know if that puts me in the same boat as this dealer or not......

I would be upset too if I sent my wife to pick up a few parts from the dealer and they charged her 50% over list. I think all of you guys would feel the same way if it came down to it.

A dealership charging someone (who just happens to be a lady) 50% over list for parts is unethical at best.

Not that I am disagreeing with anyone, BUT.......the acronym MSRP has one very significant word in it ......Manufacturer's SUGGESTED Retail Price. The manufacturer will not demand that any retailer sell at that price, merely suggest it.

There are also commonly used terms like "list" and "retail" which don't mention anything about being a "suggested" price. Vehicles are priced by MSRP, but I think parts are usually marked as list or retail prices.

Everyone knows prices are typically marked DOWN from MSRP, not UP.

You can call it what you will, but I have worked for numerous dealers that each had their own set of markups/markdowns depending on volume of sales. MANY dealers do charge more than "List" price for parts over the counter. Heck....I have worked in Service Departments that markup the price on parts compared to what you could buy them over the parts counter right in the same dealership! Not that I agree with that business practice nor do I condone it. But it happens everyday. I used to buy from one particular dealer thru my work until I started checking their markup. 30% over list! I showed them my invoice from another nearby dealer that I purchased the same part from for 30% below list! They didn't ask again why I don't purchase parts from them anylonger. Again......it goes back to being or becoming an educated consumer. This happens in every market from gasoline, grocery stores, restaraunts, ect. How much do you pay for 2 eggs and toast at a restaraunt compared to the store? Pretty good markup there when you think about it! Each business has to meet their overhead and determine a profit level. How they do that is up to them.

All true... but more importantly if you look at the original posters actual comments it seems he should be applauding the dealer rather than trying to smear him on the Internet.

Simply put, his wife purchased him a present, and he would have been best served to leave it at that. Instead he got upset and took the stuff back, upsetting his wife in the process (we all know this stuff bothers them) and getting his money back from the dealer.

The dealer was under no obligation to refund the product, but he did, looks to me like they went above the call of duty to try and satisfy a customer. I think the only thing left to do now is apologize to the wife for making her feel like an idiot because the husband decided she paid too much for a gift.

If you know anything at all about women, you don't ask questions when they give you a gift, you simply kiss them on the cheek and say thank you. No amount of savings is worth making her feel she is too stupid to know how to buy something for her man.

Those of you who have been around as long as I have will immediately know I am telling the truth. You younger fellas will learn soon enough as well
