yes, you guys are getting the idea and no one can complain. PAYPAL would be the easiest way of doing it and tracking who actually donated it. I mean, who would complain about giving some one a quarter or two, even a dollar.

I'd be in on this too, sounds like a very good idea! And what about not only having it for BOMBs but maybe a fellow member who is needing his or her truck repaired and they don't have all the funding for it themselves. We all know how pricey it can be to repair a 5.9 cummins. I'd give a buck or two for someone needing a little cash for a mod or a repair if it will help them out. I dunno if it would work but its an idea. I also agree with the one time per person too, it would be pretty unfair if the same few people got this treatment.

I'm all for helping a member on a case by case basis who is REALLY down on his luck. Not Just wanting bigger/better/faster toys
(I've kicked $$ in several times)
But 'diesel' welfare would be as big a organizational nightmare for someone to keep track of, as it is for the government.

I wouldn't keep too much hope for this happening here.
We already forbid Group Buys for the same reason.
Too much chance for something, outside of the Site Management control, to go wrong.

1. Somebody has to take the time to set up a separate bank account to house the funds and keep an accurate accounting of those funds for dispersal. I did this in the past and it is necessary to keep accurate records to avoid problems with IRS.
2. The donation of the funds through Paypal or credit card are subject to finance charges by both Paypal and the Merchant account. A $5.00 donation ends up being around $3.50 before it is even received.
3. Trying to set a fair and equitable method of choosing which member receives the funds is mind boggling at best.
4. The amount of human effort required to pull this off, checking emails, coordinating money transfers on each donation, postage and handling when sending out the money, are all hidden costs to bear.
5. DTR would be responsible for any problems that arose through this venture and I choose NOT to put myself in that position over something like this.
6. Last but not least this is illegal as it amounts to Gambling or in essence a Lottery type raffle. This is not a handful of guys in a garage somewhere that each drop a 10 dollar bill in the hat and then draw straws to see who gets it.
DTR is a licensed corporate entity and must follow the laws as set forth by the State in which it is licensed and we do not hold a lottery license.

Like I said before, I know you mean well but it just doesn't pan out when you get into what it takes to actually make it work. I can not run a lottery on my site here, it is illegal...plain and simple.
From time to time we can give away product donated by Vendors but that falls under a different category entirely.

We have families in my town that can't even put food on the table or get their kids Christrmas gifts. I bet your towns have some folks like this too.
But if we need a new fancy part for our trucks, lets buy it for ourselves.
