Testing a new chat system

I'm in the process of testing a new chat system and I'm interested in your input. You can find a link to vbChat on the forum bar, and on the bottom of the forum page where it shows who's in chat. If you guys could check it out, play around in there for a little while and give me your feedback, I would appreciate it. The good thing is that its member list is integrated with the forum so there is no need for seperate registration.

Jack, I'd knock the refresh down a notch or two.

I just used it, it seems to work well. It will take some getting used to though.

Hmmm, well it is not my keyboard.? I could only type a couple of words and it would automatically post them. Also there was no escape/ log out button yet.
Keep trying I'm sure it'll be great!

I clicked on the vbchat room, a new window popped open and said I "joined" the room. I then closed the new window (didn't see a log off chat button). As the window was closing a smaller window opened up briefly, but not all the way (a little square), then closed. Now, when I look at the status of the chat room it still shows me as logged in.

ok so the first one sucked. I put another one up, that also integrates with our user db. Please check it out and let me know what you think.

Whoa! When I fire that puppy up, it crashes Opera. I'll test later with FireFox.

Edit -- FireFox worked fine.

I agree with the earlier statement about getting used to it, but I think this will be a better chat system in the long run. Alot of other diesel sites are using this system, and it seems to work well for them. Oh, BTW, in case anyone hasn't noticed, I like it!

The only problem that has been reported so far is that the screen stops scrolling.

I do like the ability to still view the forums at the same time and the multiple rooms may come in handy, if not now at a later date.

Jack,
As we spoke about this a little in chat, my original post was from work and the chat room worked great there with no issues. I only checked with FireFox as that is all I use at work.
My work machine is a PIII 2.4g.

However, from my home machine, the new chat room was laggy at lag times up to a second or so.
I initially used FireFox and found that my processor was pegged at 100%. Thus, the lag.
Closing FireFox and switching to IE eased the processor load, but only slightly. With IE, the processor would sit about 45% with frequent spikes to 100%.
My home machine is far more humble, its a PII 550.

Both are running WinXP SP2,
Both are running FireFox 1.0.6.

Got any ideas?

I don't really do chat, but I just tried it out and talked to myself for a little bit (not much traffic). Seemed just dandy to me.
