Unhappy Sticky Wiki

With all this WIKI business, are all of our stickies gonna end up in the WIKI ??

I like the way our stickies are laid out and organized.

Just all tossed together, like the WIKI, is going to get awfully tough to go straight to something you are hunting for.

Thanks.

Im not sure how its gonna be confusing?

You can click Tech Articles, Then just look under your generation. Later on maybe we can orgainize them by engine/accesories/other as the forums are.

also
Stickies take away from the server bandwidth, so keeping them in the wiki frees up the servers some.

My personal opinion is that stickies clutter up a forum pretty bad. Especially when you have a lot of them. I have never liked them, from the very beginning so I'm very hesitant to use them. It's not hard to point to an article, and the search feature on the wiki works quite well. In addition, the wiki will be split up much like the forums are now, by year, generation and topic. It shouldn't be an issue. It's not hard to navigate the stuff, and we're going to make it as easy to use as we possibly can.

To answer your question though, yes. The wiki will replace many of the stickies we have now. Give it a chance, and you'll find it a lot less tough then you think.

I agree on the stickies. Some forums I visit have so many stickies that you have to go to the 2nd page to see new posts!

It makes for a bad user experience AND a waste of bandwidth.

I agree with BearKiller i like the stickys. all thow i can undersand the bandwith argument..............I don't like it! maybe if they were organized better so that some of them didn't take a page or two, this would help on space.

I REAL DO NOT WANT THE STICKY TO GO A WAY!!!!!!!!!!!!

But, i guess, i will try some thing new, and see how i like it

Here is my philosophy on the whole thing:

Forums are meant to be dynamic. Forums cannot survive if they are not dynamic and forever changing. Stickies are static content, and too many stickies make a forum static. They make the dynamic content hard to find. When dynamic content is hard to find, then people don't post. If I have to weed through a page of stickies to get to new threads, that makes the site difficult to navigate, and it gets stale.

Having said that, the information that is in the stickies will be there, on the wiki, in a searchable place and with a menu system that will make it easy to find said content.

We have to keep our forums simple in order for everyone to enjoy it. Stickies make them complicated. They have no structure and the more you get, the harder it is to find your information.

I think I'm here

YEAH, we ain't got but one sticky, right there at the top of the page, where we all know where it is, and we don't bother nobody else.

Alas, what cannot be remedied must be endured.

My last post was sarcasm, because to be quite honest, no matter what we do, there is always SOMEONE that will whine about this or that. The sticky is going away. It might take a while to get things moved, but it IS going to disappear once that happens. Your data is not going away and it's not going to be difficult to find. It just aint gonna be in a sticky.

If you don't like the wiki, then don't use it but good god guys, it's been up for what, 2 days and you're already whining? Gimmie a break! I've got children at home and they keep me quite busy. I don't need to deal with the same thing here.

This wiki.......stuff my be real simple in all, but i would like my own backup before it gone.

It's Really( EDIT) sad to here that us 1st gen's are such a pain in the but to the other 90% of you!

NO need to respond, i have spoke my pees, don't like, can't do any thing about it,............just give me time to save this piece of history we first gen's can the STICKYS.

Sincerely, Gordon Pulley.(Flash)

Jack,
Would there be any chance of having a link at the top of each forum to take us directly to the Technical Articles for the year or generation we are in instead of having to go back to the main page?

The list of Technical Articles is not very big now but after awhile there should be pages of them.

This way if we were in 1st. Gen Ram the link would take us directly to the Technical Articles for that year.

I am not whining or complaining, just asking.
Thanks Jim

Do we have a spell-check in place?
The more upset people get, the harder it is to understand them.
