SLOOOoooow loading headers...
I really envy the folk with high speed hookups, but out here in the sticks, I only see and average dialup connect speed of 26.4 - and it appears the page headers used on this site are pretty hi-res, and really take a lot of "extra" time to load, which gets to be sort of a problem if you regularly go thru a number of different section. I wonder if quality would suffer all that much if the header resolution was reduced somewhat to allow quicker loading for us country bumpkins with slow Internet access? I don't seem to have a similar problem with most other sites, and their headers, illustrations and such all look fine...

Just a suggestion...

Still seems pretty slow - the first load of the day takes about a full minute for each section I go to - after that, it loads quite quickly from memory - initially, the headers seem to download in about 4 stages of resolution, until it finally completes - not a big deal I suppose, just thought the header image resolution might be higher than it really needed to be.

BUT, now that the "recent posts" size has been expanded (thanks again!), I can usually just use that feature, and don't need cruise thru individual sections as much...

Re:SLOOOoooow loading headers...
Gary, I had the same problem with my old laptop and it turned out to be the modem. All dial-up phone lines are 53K compatible, so it is not the phone company (I always thought it was). The modem in my old laptop said it was 53K capable, but it turns out that it would have needed a "reflash" to do that, and the cost for the reflash was more than a new modem. I thought about replacing the modem, but the motherboard, keyboard and a few other thing started going south, so the company gave me a new laptop with a different modem and I now get 46666 regularly using the same phoine line and connection server.
