I see the new Recent Photos section but in most cases clicking on the thumbnail for the large version shows "Image pending approval". This is rather annoying and will result in people ignoring the Recent Photos section altogether.

That's just the way it is for now. I have to change that in a couple of months. Don't have time to do it at the moment. Once they're approved by a mod, then they work fine. Since there are a few hundred people browsing photos right now, I don't think it's going to stop them from browsing the photo section altogether.

 

My thought is that it's a bit risky at the moment- there is no technical "brake" against a member posting something like a pornographic image where the preview is seen right away. (For the fullsize image it would have to pass a moderator, which it would shurely not do)
I don't know about the law side of it for the DTR but over here on my servers I could get into big trouble for something like that..

It seems that we are free to attach any image to a post though. I don't understand why that's allowed without a moderator's pre-approval, but at least it doesn't seem to have been misused yet.

 

Because the software that is used to post member photo's has a totally different set of rules and instructions. It is not vBulletin.

 

You can attach an image that is hosted somewhere else too- so if you aren't the owner of the site with the image you must be careful- the owner might change the image to something you wouldn't want and you would only know it if you did a constant surveillance of your post.
