Post count thought

It probably isn't possible but the thought occurred to me that it would be more valuable to know how many posts an individual has in a given category than overall. For example, if someone posts a response in the 1st gen category but only has a couple posts in that category and owns a 3rd gen, I weigh their advice a bit differently than I would if they had lot of posts in the 1st gen forum and actually own(ed) one (i.e. experience factor).

Like I said, it probably isn't possible but if it were, it would be neat to have the post count on each thread reflect the number of posts that the user has in that particular category as opposed to overall posts (less Other).

No gripes or complaints. Just my
Keep up the great work.

Not possible with the software we use. What Jack has done is to make posts in the nontechnical sections like "Other" and the chapter forums not count towards a user's total post count.

That's what I figured but I still thought it was a neat idea so I decided to ask.

How would all this info be displayed? Look at how many different categories there are on the index page. There would have to be a list of all these categories and the corresponding post counts for each user. That would be a long list of info for each person that posts in a thread.

My theoretical thought was that only the post count for the current category would show. If you were in 1st gen, only your 1st gen post count would show; in 3rd gen, only your 3rd gen post count would show; etc.

That being said, I understand that it's not doable. Just answering the question posed.
