Hi all! I see a lot of references to the "other forum." I hope I am not opening a can of worms here, but, what is the "other forum?"
[/quote]
That "other forum" you refer to MIGHT be the TDR - Turbo Diesel Register - another very popular diesel site, but a membership only group that can be posted on only if you pay for a magazine subscription of about $35 for a quarterly magazine... It's a group of very knowledgeable folks - most of whom are like most here - downside (for me) is that the site is lots more loosely run, and moderators and administrator let lots of stuff slide and rather vicious abuse take place that simply WON'T fly or be allowed HERE!

I'm a member over there myself, but stopped contributing due to the nonsense - some of the abusers over there are here as well - but you'll not recognize them here, because they must be on their good behavior or they're escorted to the door. Many of them, once they find their behavior isn't welcome here leave and don't return - and that's fine too!
;D
*I* prefer it THIS way! ;D ;D ;D
You can access and READ posts over there - LOTS of good info, you just can't post without joining - give them a looksee - it might be another good source of diesel info you would like to belong to.

Re:Other Forum???
As a nonmember on TDR you can't see six additional forums (excluding the moderators forum). You can't use the search function either.
DTR = 5,779 members
TDR = 16,203 online members (more subscribe to just the magazine)
I post on both sites. I suspect once DTR reaches the same membership figures it will face some of the same problems and issues as the TDR faces.

"I suspect once DTR reaches the same membership figures it will face some of the same problems and issues as the TDR faces."
Certainly, as membership increases, so does the potential for personal conflicts - and FACING the issues and DEALING with them in a consistent manner based upon the type of standards displayed so far in THIS group is what potentially sets one group apart from another.
I have no doubt that there's a wider variety and depth (at this point) of expertise on TDR - but *I* gladly traded that for the "gentler" and more mannerly spirit that is encouraged here. Past heated conflicts and abuses on TDR have cost them several VERY knowledgeable participants due entirely to lack of moderator control and administrator standards - as well as seriously offending and abusing several advertisers - NOT a good way to run a board in my opinion.
I don't intend to get into that here, and kindle exactly the behavior I left THERE to get away from - so I'm done on the subject, other than to say to the guys in charge HERE, I *really* appreciate the constant display of integrity, standards and fairness that sets THIS group apart from the others and makes time spent here an enjoyable experience, and I hope to God you continue to do the same in the future... ;D ;D ;D

Re:Other Forum???
As a moderator on this site, and I don't want to speak for the rest of them, I intend to keep this site clean. My goal is to have fun and learn and let others do the same. Some of the stuff I have removed was totally inappropritate and useless on here. We cut up and have fun in the Other forum on here but it stays good clean fun. There are a few members on this site that are teachers and their young students check this site out all the time. There are plenty of less than desireable sites out there for those that like that stuff but it is not permitted on here. Opinions are welcome as long as they don't get out of control and start wars.

I left the "other" site for reasons stated in previous posts. There are no hard feelings and I hope the site continues to do well. I just don't care for some of the stuff that goes on over there.

DD4X4
Re:Other Forum???
Ummmm....not to throw a wrench in here....but if the gentleman that started this thread was referring to MY comments about the "Other" forum...then he should know that any time I mention the "Other" forum I'm simply talking about our very own "Other" forum down below. ;D That was my home for so long....but now that I've bought a Dodge I venture out into the rest of the world here on DTR.
Regarding TDR....I went there once. Didn't like it. :

Re:Other Forum???
I am a member of this forum because:
1. I am in full agreement with the basic philosophy and policy of the founders & administraters, Jack Thorpe & Lary Ellis, to have a CLEAN site. Although I disagree with ONE thing in his "rules", it is very insignificant and I realize it is his site and he can have whatever rules he wishes. If I don't like the rules I have the perogotive to leave the site.
2. I've found the administrators, moderators, and other staff to be fair, honest and reasonable with all of us and when an error in judgement (they are human too) was made they didn't hesitate to apologise. One exception was when I asked an admin, by PM, what I thought was a legitimate question and never got an answer...it was no big deal.
3. Although it is smaller than "The Other Site" I think we have a sufficient amount of knowledge and experience here to answer all the questions that come up, plus we can always read on any of the other sites.
4. I really do enjoy the fun and games, the give and take, and the humor and jokes of everyone from the top admins. to the newest "noobie".
Summary: I like the "clean" philosophy.
I like the fairness & honesty of ALL the staff.
I like the knowledge & experience here.
I like the "fun" of all on this forum.
End of soapbox......... :

It's really not that complicated. Go to the general forums page....scroll down...click on "Other". Here...I'll even give you a link.
Other
THIS is the one I talk about when I say the "Other" forum.

I have seen "Other" refer to Ford and GM sites as well as the TDR.
It often depends on the subject of the post.

True....very true. When I used to hang out at the OTHER site, they used to make reference to that other OTHER site in derogatory ways.
