DTR Support Raffle

To raise some money to cover the cost of running the site, WOuld it be possible to do something like have a fund raiser where users can donate X amount minimum and we could have raffles to draw for a Quad box or something?

Every now and then a manufacturer donates some product for me to give away to members in a free drawing. I don't do a donation drive with that product because frankly I feel it would be dishonest on my part, to accept funds for donated product.

I guess I am old fashioned, but unless a vendor told me that was the way they wanted me to do it on their own, I would never ask such a thing from them.

I appreciate your show of support, however what you are suggesting is in fact a lottery and I am not certain that would even be a legal thing we could do.

DTR is a corporate entity and thus must do business according to the State laws where we are established. I never looked into any thing like this, but my guess is that it would be a huge no-no.

If a raffle is a lottery, and a no no for a corporation, how do schools and other organizations get away with it? Is it just corporations?

Instead of a raffle how about an auction? just a thought!

and yes you are old fashion!

Keep up the good work Lary! I know tax season is upon you!

Aw heck, drinkin' the coffee in the breakroom is a lottery in itself, and may even be illegal too, but it don't stop us from drinkin' it!

Schools and 'other organizations' are generally non-profit and fall under a whole other set of rules.

Auction how? Auctions are generally won by the highest bidder, which won't work off donations I'm thinking? Regardless, part of an auction is the highest bidder pays only, right?
