Could We Please Enable Custom User-Made Avatars?

Ever since I've been on this forum, users have been unable to upload a custom avatar. There is the pre-set list of strange and uninteresting avatars, and then the generic spinning Dodge logo that half the people here have to revert to using. Every other web forum I belong to (and I belong to many, including GlockTalk, ShotgunWorld, Blue October, Drum Corps Planet, and PavementSucks, just to name a few) allows users to select custom avatars...except for this one. For instance, take a look at THIS PAGE on GlockTalk to see what I'm talking about. It just gives a more customized and diversified look and feel to a message board when users can express their interests, "toys", likenesses, etc. in a custom avatar. It adds so much color to a message board too. So...after who knows how long of 2D comic cartoon characters and generic spinning Dodge logos, isn't it about time that DTR users who wish to be able to select a custom avatar for their posts?

Respectfully,
STAT 007

Arrow Sorry,,,,,,,,,

It's just not possible at this time. The site is struggling to keep up now and all efforts are being made to stay afloat with the added growth and already "overloaded server equipment"

Running this place doesn't come free and the bigger it gets,,,, the more it costs. But rest assured that everything possible is being done to remedy this.

Thanks, Dennis. I can understand the lack of funds. Eric, the owner of GlockTalk has the same problem. Continuously. He recently got a bunch of new server equipment (pictured below), which has helped things out a lot. But he's still always low on money.

I'm wondering what DTR does to raise money (since membership is free). Do you receive monetary donations from good-natured members who want to see the site grow? Do you run fundraisers, such as merchandise sales or prize giveaways (like mass raffles where people buy tickets for say $5 each, hoping to win one of the prizes)? Surely there's something we can do as members to help out with the situation. DTR has a great community of people here and a wealth of knowledge, but it seems as though the infrastructure could really use some updating.

Again, thanks for the info, Dennis.

100% donations.

You'll see a little "make donation" towards the top of every page, click on that and give till it hurts.

There is a status thread in this section showing where we need to be for the new equipment, and where we currently are.

100% ???

Doesn't ad revenue generate any profit? How about the online store sales?

The status thermometer is long overdue for updating as other members that have donated have said.

Yes, I mispoke.
Ads and the store do bring in some, but most of that goes to monthly hosting and bandwidth fees.

Equipment upgrades is purely donation driven.

Barely anything right now. I imagine as it grows, it'll get better every month, but the amount is so small that it will take a while to get where we need to be with being able to upgrade servers.

I'm sure when Lary has the time, he'll update it.
