I discovered last evening that my hardrive seemed to be running 100,000 miles an hour and surfing was slooooooooooow.
Pulled up Task Manager and found McCaffee Anti-Virus was running at ~ 80% CPU usage.
I turned it off and speeds seemed to improve dramatically.

Time to dump that garbage and find something else.

At last, meaningful support from IT...

at least we can handle this technique in-house

The Norton suite isn't much better, IMO

i agree.

standalone harddrives are getting cheaper by the minute.

backups are easy.

besides real time duplication of everything under the sun, not sure what the ramifications are for a webserver though...

how many boxes is this site running on? or is that topsecret?

tks,
rjm

Trend Micro...IMO the only way to go for anti-virus.

shovelhead, get ahold of avg free version of virus protection, it is a free download, updated daily, you can schedule it, and easy to set its priority level , just as it would be for macafee, don't get skeered abou8t the warning about changing a processes priority, its just Bill trying to make you feel inferior.

link to the d load page, bit down there is a download now button. if ya like it, they also have a spyware proggy that is good too.

I've noticed that quite often lately. A couple times on problem days I've also gotten the "Server too busy. Try again later." message.

hmm. my first post was pulled(sorry) so i will try it another way.
i have some issues with navigating this site around 8:30pm pacific time. it requires me to close i explorer and come back to it. it does not happen with any other sites. so, just a minor issue, but it seems to do it only when i click the post reply button.

Haven't seen any issues today. I would recommend a reboot or something. working for me in IE and Firefox.

I noticed around that time last night that it did slow down a bit and I received one "Server Busy" message. I just waited for a few minutes and everything was back to normal. Figured someone might have been running a big search or possibly some maintenance. Otherwise, I haven't had any issues.

Still not seeing any problems here, and the pages are responding fine for me. I just checked the server and it's running at less than 10% load. Don't know what to tell you.
