Amazon Ads????

Has anyone else noticed the Amazon ads on the site today? So annoying I think, you dont know if its a link to more information about a subject or an ad.

I'm playing around with it a bit. I also felt they were all over the place so I drastically reduced the amount of links that should show up. I don't know. I'll give it a couple of days and see how it works out. i'm not so sure it's worth it yet.

Thanks for the response Jack,

Dont get me wrong I am all for doing what it takes to keep the site free as I know how expensive it can be but amazon link ads are generally the most annoying compared to banners or pop-ups IMHO.

From what I've seen for the past hour, I hate to say it, but I tend to agree that it is annoying. I made a couple of adjustments. I'm hoping they will be more relevant, but we'll see. It may not be worth it. I'll give it a couple of days and see where we stand. If it's not working out, I'll get rid of them. Thanks for the feedback.

I know its a way for the site to remain free to us but it is so darn annoying. I have seen sites where certain words and usually abbreviations are linked with a pop-up that describes what it is (like CR=Common Rail Diesel, or WOT=Wide Open Throttle) and its nice for the newcomers to learn the lingo.

Download FireFox

http://www.getfirefox.com

Install FireFox

Install AdblockPlus Extension for FireFox

http://adblockplus.org/en/installation

*FireFox has to be restarted*

Select EasyList USA as the list to subscribe to when it opens back up.

Proceed to browse all over the internet with 99% of the ads GONE.

I can live with the links as long as they are passive.

... but I reported a few posts before I realized it was something new with the site!

Does the site get $ just for the link being there, or do we have to click on so that it will get a hit?

I'm sure it's probably the same as the vendors that have banner ads at the top. I could be wrong though. I thought someone was trying to pull a fast one when I first found it. It's really not that bad to have it. As long as it keeps DTR up and running I'm happy.

FWIW, I have seen exactly one Amazon pop up today, and I have no clue what triggered it.

Annoying ..........yes, but well worth the price to pay for still having this site available and free! I've said it before, and I'll say it again, I would gladly pay to have access to this site! If it ever comes down to it, just say the word!

Annoying, Definitely! I have not seen one Amazon ad that has anything to do with DODGE DIESEL TRUCKS.

Hey Jack,
I have to agree...I find the ads annoying. As a matter of fact, I thought something was wrong with firefox at fist, then I thought I should go look through site notices and found it.

However, if it is helping to support the site, so be it.

My $0.02

Tony
