It's not, and there is. Look closely and you'll find it.

I say there is already 4. I refer to the VP44 24-valve as the 3rd and the CR24-valve as the 4th. I go by engine modle not body style but for the sake of not making a fuss on the sight I just go by the 3 that most use . I know thats not the norm but thats the way I think it should be. The 6.7 is not a 5.9 so should be a 1st gen 6.7 I think. Just the way I think. Is that were you get your 4 too Jack?

There is no 4th generation yet...Dodge has a habit of changing engines in the middle of a generation, that does not make it a new generation.

First gen is all the diesel powered rams prior to 1994. Second Gen is everything from 1994-2002 12 valve and 24 valve a like. Third gen is everything from 2003- today.

There is NO 4th generation truck yet. You will know it when they arrive as they will look different from the ones currently being sold.

I completly agree with you, I do happen to wander into the 2nd gen classifieds looking specifically for 12 valve's, n have to wade through the 24 valves. being a DIESEL forum, not truck specific forum, id say the p-pump motors were the 2nd gen, and VP motors were the 3rd Gen.

lol just my 2 cents guys, keep up the good work!

Well you can call a Dandelion a Rose, but that doesn't actually make it a Rose....

There are no 4th generation Dodge trucks yet, so naturally it does not make sense to call them something they are not. If we start calling some of the 3rd gen trucks 4th gen.....What the heck are we going to call the 4th gen trucks when they actually start making them?

The generation just goes by the body not engines... Dodge is constantly doing engine changes. That would be a disaster... Lol!

Wow, are you working for Microsoft?... Reminds me of Windows patches. Even naming them like this might imply a similar level of reliability

Jack,

That is the problem and we are starting to see a few posts in the wrong place because of it. We shouldn't have to look closely to find it. It should be as obvious as the other forums.

The forum you created for the 6.7L is labelled:

3rd Gen Engine and Drivetrain -> 2007 and up
2007 Engine and Drivetrain discussion including the new 6.7 L Cummins Turbo Diesel

IMO opinion ot should read:

3rd Gen Engine and Drivetrain -> 2007 and up (32 Viewing)
2007 Engine and Drivetrain discussion regarding the new 6.7 L Cummins Turbo Diesel

If I was new to the site, I might be drawn to that forum as I own a 2007.

I do appreciate the work you all do. Just trying to help the cause.

It is in bold print right under the section's topic, how hard is it to see what year your truck is, and match that and your engine to the correct section?
