Question Volvo Penta 5.7l Gi break-in period

Ok, it's not a CTD question but a boat question.

Dealer says the above engine is broken-in at 20 hours. What do you guys say? Seems like 20 hours is pretty low but I'm not sure.

I think that is more than enough. I have the same exact engine in my 01 Chaparrel. I know I didn't wait that long to lay the hammer down. started towing the first time out, plus with the corsa quick and quiet exhaust it was hard to not get on it I have not had a single problem, knock on wood

Some good reading on engine break-in...

http://www.ntnoa.org/enginebreakin.htm

Here are aircraft guidelines on engine break in. With aircraft engines, reliability and long life are prime goals of engine break in. After all, you don't want an aircraft engine die in mid flight .

Use to work with a fellow a long time ago that built engines for Mustangs. He took a brand new built engine and put it in one of the stangs, took it out in the parking lot, fired it up, went right to the red line and dumped the clutch. He said that is the way to break them in right and as far as I rememebr, he never blew one up. Can't say as I agree with his philosophy but apparently it worked for him. I'm more like Mikey, I'm not gonna try it..........
