Question Who has a newer Charger?

My wife wants a charger, and since my work is probably going to buy my truck we'll probably get her one. So, who has one and what do you think? I want to get her a fully loaded R/T, maybe AWD or maybe Road & Track package.

Also, what's a good forum to visit so I can start the learnin'?

Thanks!

I see. So you drive one on patrol? My neighbor across the street brought a bunch of different cars home, testing them for L.A. Co. Sheriff Department. He drove the Charger, Magnum, Impala (I think it was an Impala), and a Tahoe and his favorite was the Charger. That's my kind of cop car!

A good Charger site is the LXforums.com

My wife loves her Magnum RT. Will be three years old this coming January.

Does yours take forever going into reverse and drive when trying to turn around on someone? I can't stand how long they take to go in and out of gear.

(I drive a crown vic and like it BTW)

I rented one last month and wasn't real impressed with it. Granted, it had the extremely underpowered 6 cyl and it was the base model for interior goodies ... but I just wasn't impressed with the layout inside. The blinker lever is too close to the cruise control lever so you end up grabbing the wrong one. Both of those levers are in the way of seeing part of your gauges (left binker signal).

All things that could be lived with in the end ... and with a healthy SRT-8 under the hood I probably wouldn't have even cared about the dadgum blinker !!

I do like the Magnum however.

We're starting to slowly switch my departments fleet over to Chargers with the 5.7L. If I was in the market for a "car" I'm 99% sure I'd have one in my driveway already.

The only oddity I noticed is the drive -to- reverse shift as mentioned alread. IIRC it was actually engineered to not drop into reverse if it senses anything over a certain forward speed. This was to help save the tranny (Think Ford Crown Vic with a hammered tranny). I found that when I have to make a quick "U" turn, its imparative to basicly hammer the brakes to some to a complete stop, when I do this, the tranny will drop right into reverse.

BUT, this reverse quirk wouldn't be a problem if it was a daily driver.

I raced an R/T the other night with the smarty on 5. i won but don't think i will try it again till i get the clutch and turn up the smarty. if i had an auto i would have left him at the light. that 6-speed kills me when racing. anyways, they got my respect for now.
