Gonna blow my top.........
Gonna blow my top.........
Yep it's work related and I just may get to say those famous Johnny Paycheck lines. The summer crew is gone and it's just me and my assistant to take care of 14 acres of lawn, 15 college fleet vehicles, get the winter stuff ready(6 plows,3 snowblowers,a 6' rotary broom,a 6' plow and a 5'plow and rebuild a 6' sander that was backed into a light pole).
Here's my grief........ Tranpsorting the athletic teams. We had 2 inhouse drivers until this fall, they mostly drove all the trips and I drove 3-5 trips out of the 30+ for m&wsoccer,v-ball,m&wb-ball, and wrestling. 1 inhouse driver can't drive no more, too much liability. Those who make the great decisions knew for a long time (1 yr) that there was going to be a driver problem starting this fall and failed to get outside drivers lined up. Now I am being TOLD that I need to drive more and to be prepared (at least 2 days/week and every weekend) and continue w/ my other duties. Like I am going to have time for that. The trips during the week suck, usually leave by 10 am and return by 2-3 am the next morning and it is expected to return to normal duties that same morning you get back. Yes, we go over legal drivers hours on every trip. Yes, the overtime is nice but I am just not going to be gone from home that much. Nevertheless bus driving or a CDL is in not even listed in my job description which was just reviewed. Last tuesday my Dean was pounding his desk telling me I was going to drive this last Friday, I laughed at him cause I had already been approved for time off to take my wife to get her thyroid removed because it had cancer. It cost the school $6,000 to rent a bus and driver to take the volleyball team to Vegas.
It just so happens that on friday a Grounds Supervisor position opened up where I live (no more 100 mile one way commutes) at the state mental hospital (I might feel normal there). Since I already work for the state, I should have a foot in that door.
I'm on the verge of saying "Take this Job and Shove It".
I have been there 4.5 yrs. They were without a Grounds and Irrigation supervisor for 4 years before I took the job. The place was horrible. Now it's immaculate and attractive. When we have people from other community college's in our state come and visit I always hear just how pretty and well kept our campus is from my Dean.
Tomorrow may be interesting.

Do you have a paperwork/email stating your supervisor's decision?
If not, get one.
Start now, and document EVERYTHING.
Daily logs, hours spent on tasks (which piece of equipment/task performed/reason for task), hours spent driving folks around (specific dates/destinations/reasons).
Then when they start wondering why the winter fleet isn't ready to roll come snowfall........Your keester is covered.....
Or just tell your boss Adios, leave and take the other job.
If not, get one.

take a weeks vacation, start the new job, if its better than the old one, stay, if it worse, say nothing and return to your job till another opp turns up.... the benefit of the trial week is if it is good you get to call and sing that take this job and shove it, I ain't workin here no more !

tell them 15K more a year or your walkin, cause it will just about cost them that with the first 2 or 3 fines they get from that nice man with the wing & tire on his car door when you report your over your driving hours EVERY trip. keep a very accurate log book and remind them that you keep a log of all of your driving hours.

Well, whatever you do, I'd say don't burn any bridges with your current boss, even if you decide to leave.
Less commute and less overtime might make the other job more attractive, anyway. You might see if you can make an appointment for a tour and explanation of the duties so you can see for yourself what kind of work environment it is, and if it is some place you would be happy with.

Thanks.............
She is doing well. She has only taken 2 pain pills since leaving the hosp. on friday. The big question is if she will need to take radioactive iodine pills to make sure all the cancer is gone. We will find out on friday when we see the doc and she get's the stitches removed.

I also wish your wife well.
I'm glad to see people look elsewhere when their job is getting them down. This is a free market and employers have to understand that have competition out there. Almost every job I have left, the employer asked me what they could do to get me to stay. They already knew because of previous conversations.
