Adjustable Temperature Three Cylinder Idle Idea
I guess I need to go down to dealer and have them enable high idle with the star tool. I' never had it done had it enabled because it rarely gets below freezing more than a couple days a month here with exception of this year. thanks for the good idea.
Hey guys and gals, another update on the IAT sensor and resistor for high idle. It works. I used a pot to dial up the resistance starting at 5K and stopping at 100K. The high idle kicked in after a minute and increasing the resistance more got the 3-cylinder cut out. My engine got too warm so I had to fool the coolant temp sensor also. The concept is finally proven.
That 3-cylinder cut out sounds like I had bent valves.

From the videos I have seen, the Cummins sounds like a frickin tractor when the three cylinder idle kicks in.
I've also tested it...
A 65K ohm resistor (Green, Blue, Orange, Gold) in the IAT plug will do the 3 cyclinder idle... Regardless of the outside temp and/or IAT temp... The 65K ohm resistor is 13*F in the IAT sensor...
I'm still looking for the plugs...
I plan on building a control box that has both high idle and 3 cyl idle build into it... Not to mention a control for the ECT (Engine control temp) so I can activate high idle any time...
Problem is I work for the local fire dept and I got to leave my truck run with my beacon light, hazards, head lights running for up to 3-4 hours... I would like to kick high idle so I can keep the engine warm on cold winter nights...
So thats why I've been working at this idea...
Here is the plugs and what they look like...
