are projector headlights a good mod?

I was wondering how many people have projector headlights and what you really think of them? I am fixing to change the front end of my 03 to a 08 laramie frontend, but i'm having a hard time deciding on whether to buy the stock lights or buy projector headlights. I want function over form and i have heard the aftermarket projector lights don't light as well as a regular headlights. Just thought i'd see what everyone has to say about theirs?

not a step towards better lighting... get the stock housings and HID to go in it and you'll be much better off!

Stock housings will throw the light everywhere. Do it right and get a retrofit kit to put in the stock housings. Retrosolutions has them for like $235.

I have searched on adding HID to aftermarket Projectors. From what I found some of the good Projectors like Anzo work good, while most are not so good. The projectors are made for Halogen bulbs and do not work well if replacing them with HID.

Love the way my projectors "look" but on the ones I bought the light sucks. Always have to drive with my fog lights on to see good enough. Want to convert them to HIDs or ditch them entirely at some point.

thanks for the responses guys i actually decide to go with stockers...got a pretty good deal on them off ebay. i have all the pieces in the paintshop for the conversion just waiting for them to come out. ive been rounding up all the stuff i think i"m gonna need from dodge. can anyone tell me how the lights mount in or maybe have some pics of the light out of the socket? i know the front inner fenders show to be different, but i think that is because of a access hole. is there a bolt behind the headlight in the fender?

I found the best solution for lighting is to not drive at night. This is an age issue as I dont see as well anymore and the thought of pasting a deer or elk doing 60+ is not comforting.

a projector housing with halogen bulbs is going to be a waste of time-in the lighting department. The aftermarket projector housing "look" nice, but are designed to project an HID source.
I cant say which aftermarket housing are better or worse at actually projecting the HID, but there are only a couple manufacturers out there-they are mostly just repackaged.

If you put an HID kit into the stock housing-you will be on of "those guys" that blind everyone else on the road & make it dangerous to drive. Stock housings are designed for halogens....not HIDs
