New projector headlights are on

Well, I took the plunge and decided to order some of the projector beam headlights from eBay. Some of you may have seen my posting in the other forum, but I thought I would share them here too if any of your were considering them.

OK... initial impressions.
1. Fit and finish leave some to be desired, but is not too bad. Just larger gaps than I would have liked. It was dark so I dont have pics to show you of that yet, but will tomorrow.

2. Installation is a snap, 40 minutes and your done. Do plan on splicing the Halo lights into your park light wires though. I used bullet quick connects so you can disconnect the entire Assy. if you want to.

3. Light output. As you can tell from the pics, these things REALLY need to be adjusted, and unfortunatly I am not going to be able to do it tonight. Actual output on low beams is up a bit, I will know more after I get them properly aligned. High beams are already WAY better! As you will see in the pics.

4. Build quality seems pretty good. No worse than stock. Everything on the back is sealed with rubber boots to protect the connections on the back side of the bulbs.

5. Looks, as I stated before, I didnt do this for the looks. I like the way they look however. Not nearly as "Tunerish" as I was fearing. I prefer the "Big Rig" look of the bigger stock reflectors.... but I didnt do it for the looks.

6. One complaint.... actually two.
Complaint #1, Fit and finish. I am a picky sucker though, but then again ALL of us on this site are when it comes to our trucks. Dont deny it man, admitting it is the first step.
Complaint #2, and it may not turn out to be a valid one. As you can see from the pics, one of the Halos lights doesnt work., When I remove them to adjust the low beams I will double check the wiring before firing an email to the seller.

So check my member pics and let me know what you think.

You may not have done it for looks but I think they look good.

Looks like a BIG improvment over the stock light output even if they aren't adjusted yet.

I like them. Even with my crappy, soon to be replaced, dark monitor they look like an improvement.

I'm impressed with the focus of the beams. Notice on the lowbeam shot how sharply the light is cut along the fence.

Is there two different projectors for the high and low beams?

Thumbs up

I think they look good in the truck, and the light output seems to be a pretty big improvement over stock.

Yet another mod to consider.

Yes, there are seperate bulbs and reflectors for the high and low beams. Thats nice because you can focus them seperate from each other. I always thought that the factory high beams needed to be aimed differently, and now I can. Also, I can install higher wattage bulbs on the high beams, and not mess with the low beams. Makes it better for other drivers.
The best part so far is exactly what bluedeviltorque mentioned. There is a VERY sharp cutoff on the top of the beam. So you can adjust them up a bit higher than normal, and still not bother on coming traffic.
Adjustment sucks however, since it all has to be done with the light removed. Not too bad though. Just make your adjustments, push the light into its seated position and determine what adjustments need to be made.
All in all Im pretty hsppy. I like the way they look too.

I emailed the guy on ebay that is selling these, and he informed me they are not adjustable/aimable...how do you plan on getting them adjusted?

They are adjustable. I will post pics of daylight shots and post adjustment night pics. They are fairly easy to adjust, although it has to be done from behind which means the light has to be removed, adjusted, then pushed back into place to check alignment.
I paid $160 on eBay, plus $40 for shipping, $5 for insurance. Well worth it in my opinion.
I actually paid about $10 more because I liked the feedback rating of one seller over the other, plus the cheapest seller on eBay doesnt include the bulbs, whereas mine came with them.
Also, I was poking around on eBay, and they have Pilot brand HID bulbs and ballasts that will fit these headlights for $190. Since you have seperate bulbs for high and low beams, you could go HID on low beams, then 110W PIAA's on the high beams. BEAT THAT!!!
Pics tonight.

What type of bulbs do these normally take and what are you using?

Thanks,
Andy
