Which wire for my FP gauge?

OK, I installed my FP gauge but I'm not sure which wire to tap into to illuminate it. I need 12v positive which is switched to the dash lights.
Can anyone tell me where to look for that wire and the color code of it. Thanks

On my old one it was a brown/orange wire.

If you take out the headlight switch you can poke around with a tester and have someone run the dimmer up and down (you do have a test light, right?)

I am pretty sure you can tap into the illuminatin fuse in the fuse panel. I believe it is fuse #5.

eric13, Not sure what a fuse tap is. Does it just slip down on one side of the fuse? If so,where can I find them? Thanks

Any hardware store will have them. And yes as said earlier there is an illumination(dimmer) fuse in the fuse panel.

I've found the easiest place to tap into the dimmer wire is behind the headlight switch. Pop the dash bezel off, two screws and you're there.

Why mess with the wiring and headlight switch. Locate the fuse and get a fuse tap, it pushes in with the fuse then you use a female slide connector and you're done. Of course locating the correct fuse is helpful. My 99 uses #5 "ILLUM" if that's not it then the other one that's tapped is named "CULSTER" Sorry forget which number it is, maybe 12?.

Update for correct wire: First removed dash bezel (held in place with spring loaded clips & one screw in upper right corner). Three screws holding down headlight/dimmer switch, Pulled out switch (wires plenty long enough). 12v test light, found two usable wires (black w/yellow stripe or solid tan). Turns out my alarm guy already has tapped into the bl/y wire. Trace the wire to the alarm module which is close to the FP gauge. New butt connector and I am illuminated. Pretty easy if you know where to look. Thanks you all
