not sure where to post this, but i figure this place pulls out and installs engs. more often then the board upstairs.
now to the pt. when i pulled my isb out ,it had the oil pan off. i recall being real close to the front axle (4wd). but most of my focus was on finding what the noise was and had been pulling off so many parts in elimination of noise (suspects)that i do not know for shure if it will go back in with pan on or if it has to be off????
just tring to save a gasket time and $$ i know the valve cover will be off ,and that gives a little more room. :-
thanx in advance evven

I didn't think you could get the oil pan off with the engine in the truck. ??? I thought the pan had to be on when putting the engine in.

Hey thumper, presume if you are asking this question that the engine is now assembled and ready to drop back in. If so, great news.
Sorry, can't answer your question.
Question for you. Before dropping the crankshaft in did you rod out all the oil passages and then use compressed air to blow them out? Also are you triple sure that ALL the bearing shell oil holes line up with the oil holes in the block?

Thumper,

gotcha. I'm pretty sure it won't come off with the engine bolted in (hence the danger during cam changes), but jacking it up a little makes sense.
