Why not make a sticky

I had a thought, and yes, it hurt.

Most of us new to diesel, or modding in general, always come in here and ask the same question- What mods should I get? I see that question at least 3 times a week, and alot of yall reply to it. Why not have some of the real grease monkies out of here make a sticky list of mods, the order they are generaly applied, the power/torque gains that can be expected from each step, and what need to be done to support those mods, IE; Tourque Converter, VB, Aux pump/big line and the rest of it. After the initial sticky is made, the more expierienced (Ive never spelled that right) members can recomend brands and different approaches. It should be more educational than pratical, for instance, instead of simply saying "now add injectors", it should say "Injectors will increase HP by shooting more fuel in the mix, but this will require an Aux fuel pump and transmission upgrades for Autos. They also come in different sizes based on your goals." Or something like that, I dont really know what Im talking about. How does one spell expierence anyways?

i totally agree. i have been meaning to suggest this. on the mx-6/probe forums we did this all the time (yes i own a probe. first car. not my choice). it made things alot easier and kept people from asking the same things over and over or having to search all over the place to find out about a part or mod. its a really good idea.

we'd need to set down and make a list for HO's and SO's, Then go into towing applications, and moderate bombs, then all out power, then fuel system upgrades, gauges, transmission upgrades/clutch, etc etc.

I agree with Brian, what works great for one truck/driver, may not be the hot ticket for someone else.

Plus if someone just reads, and gets what they are told, they won't likely understand why they got what they did, and what makes things work well, or not so well together. I think the current format is better for learning, and sharing knowledge and experience.

Yes, this is a good thought. However, what works for someone, doesn't work for another.
Case in point,
I'm looking for a good daily driver, and I tow a bass boat, and haul a small cabover camper. So what's good for me? Perhaps a Smarty or a Van Aaken, or and Edge EZ. I am going to go 4" turbo back. But now I'm thinking... I don't have any guages, and I know that I need a FP guage first.
Maybe I should just get the Juice with Attitude, thereby gaining guages of a sort. I don't know yet. Then comes the tranny issue, will a Juice toast my tranny, where an EZ or an Aaken won't?? Is the Smarty better for small power, as it gives killer low end and super mid range? Do I need injectors? 275's BD's ? ***?
Perhaps one needs to pick a HP number they want, and then ask for opinions on how to acheive that?
The problem is that there are way too many options for the 24Valve engine, and we are all doomed to spending endless dollars in pursuit of the black smoke.....

IMHO that is the best course of action, pick a number, state the use, and let it get discussed untill you figure out the best setup for your truck, and you learn why things are good choices.

(Did you guess I don't like it when people bolt parts on because that is what they were told they need)

yeah but this site will save you a ton of money if you do the research and ask. this site will also cost you money, b/c it shows you whats out there and makes you want it.

Bingo.. I never knew all this stuff was available, and yes I want it.

But, actually I just want low end and medium for my boat and camper. I'm hoping that I can stop with the 4" exhaust and the edge Juice with the guages.

i'm not saying that someone should just say "get this, then this. then upgrade that, etc." it would help alot to explain what the aftermarket parts will affect and how they work as well as the drawbacks of each upgrade. i think somthing like that would be helpful to people new to diesels (like me!). i mean half the time i donno what people are talking about when they use acronyms.
