If you had a 5.9L Gas engine.....yeah.....4.56 and 4.88 would be great. BUT i am with everyone else....with these diesels, you dont need to run a very tall gear. The masive amt of low end these trucks have will get you going. With a 40" tire, you are not going to tow......or tow very heavy....5K, if that, max. I think the 4.10's would be perfect and very easy swap....might be free if you talk to someone that wants the 3.55's. 1800-2000 at 70 is great.....i feel that is about where you want it.
Yeah, to get 1800-2000 at 70, im going to need 4.56 with a 40in tire. These guys with factory 4.10's are loving there truck with 35/36 inch tire. This is a hard one to figure out, I think 4.88 is out of the question now. I talk to a guy yesterday on PS.com, Said he has 4.56 and 38in tire and loves it. My 40's mesure small also, not a true 40.

Lets put it to you this way:

No tow to light tow: 4.10

Heavy Towing: 4.56

My old boss back in Texas had 44's with 3.73's.....that Hopped up PSD had NO issue with roasting the tires off the rims.....It drove very well for the miss matched gears. Better than i gave it credit for......

I feel you would be very happy with the 4.10's....yes the 4.56's would take off faster, but look at the cost of swapping them in! Again, these trucks came with the 4.10's stock! Just swap axles....could have it dont in a day or less easy! You are sitting at peak torque RPM with the 4.10 at 70 MPH......that is good for crusing....

That is how these new VG Trans do it...they crusie at peak torque, and when you need to pass....they switch to peak HP....all you would need to do is down shift...and Peak HP would come in at about 80 MPH.......give or take....

Do what you feel would work best for you....both would work well since you are keeping the engine around the 1800-2000 range at 70....i just feel that the 4.10 swap could be done TONS cheaper....heck you already got offers for your axles on this thread!

Yeah it might be cheaper if i could find someone that wanted to trade, But if they like far away it might be a pain. The guy i'm having do it is the best around, does ALOT of them. Pretty good price too(I think) To do it all, labor and parts, $1,350 for 4.56 or $1,375 for 4.88.
