What makes the difference in P7100s?

How are these pumps modified to crank out so much fuel. I was told that some of the race pumps put out 700cc of fuel with a stock plate and other parts. So what is going on inside of these pumps? I always thought that the difference between the 160 and 215 pumps were the cam plate and delivery valves, but apparantly that isn't the case My curiousity is starting to get the best of me these days...

I think they have different cams and things in them, which is why you cant easily mod a 160-180 to perform with the 215 pumps without having the pump gone through.\

Plungers and barrels are different, as well as the plunger lift profile on the cam.
