Forrest can you explain how you measured the pre-load and how you set that? Do you slide the AFC back or are you changing the tension back by the diaphragm part of the AFC by adjusting the freeplay?

Thanks.

Paul, the end cap on the AFC cover (where the AFC diaphragm can be accessed) has an allen headed set screw with a lock nut. I think you have to remove a little cover to access it.

when I got the truck, J&H had put a lot of pre-load on it for Dusty to help reduce smoke. I was concerned about limiting rack travel (still gotta get a longer AFC spring!) so I set it up so that the set screw was just touching the shaft... zero lash essentially.

my adjustment when I put the injectors in was pretty unscientific, I just ran the allen screw in about 1/8". I can still put out a heck of a cloud if I floor it, but part throttle is VERY drivable, and I don't even have to watch my mirror.

My AFC foot is also ground flat and ground back maybe .050-.060" at the shallowest point (lowest)

the back of the foot I cut like 1/2" off and chamfered the hole... it'll never hit the back of the cover now!

ambient conditions make a heck of a difference...

I was seeing 1400* when I first installed these things... at 54* ambient in Oklahoma I was seeing 1300*... I'm at sea level down here south of Houston, and at 42* ambient, max EGT's in 6th gear was 1200*!
