went from 181s to a set of cut delivery valves

i thought i might see how much of a differace they would make on my dually for the truck pulls. right now the truck is running a hx55 with a 16cm exhaust housing on it. a set of 370s and a lot of rack travel. the truck clears the smoke up at 48 or so psi. well i put the dv's in and it really doest feel any stronger on the bottom, but a bit stronger on the top. and my god the smoke is insane, and the egts act like a hx 35 at 400 rwhp. i am pulling them back out and going back with the 181's. i picked up a little boost, maybe 2 pounds but it is hard to drive the truck with out teeing off evey one around me. i can shut down a 4 lane highway with ease. i have a set of 191's i might give a try. maybe the cuts are putting the fire out on the bottom end.

I ran them with stock sticks, but never 370's! I would say that's a twins only configuration with pump setup like yours.

I know going from 181's and 370's with Twins, to Laser Cut's, stock injectors, and bigger twins, I picked up 20psi in Valet Mode. Full fuel I have no idea...I was getting 60psi with the old setup, and I saw 73 once before I adjusted the pop-offs! That setup made 402/885, and was WAAAYYY overfueled!!! With more air I could have made 450+ easily!

Helps to assess my current predicament...

I think ill stick with 181s for now, bein that the truck is a little more driveable. i do have some 191s tho, not for sale as of yet, call me crazy but i might have them half cut over at schieds to kill this stupid 370 surging i have...

Other than more power...I didn't notice any driveablitly concerns. Yes they smoke, but anytime you add power on a 12v, you're gonna get smoke if you don't have PLENTY of air!

Thanks for info, I was going to get a set of cut valves to see if they helped but now I think I will stick with the setup I have. I found a little more fuel it the end cap and get 58 to 59 lbs of boost which seems to be plenty.

Well, I haven't changed my description of my truck lately. The 97 has a hx35 over a 3e with a 22cm housing and a 38 mm tial wastegate. I took the hx40 to 50 one time and then hooked up the wastegate and never took it over 41 lbs. I was getting 54 lbs. and under 1100 degreesout of the box with the twins but I moved the stop cap out a little and it bumped it up to 59. I figure that is enough for now. Ya don't think a 40 would like 60 psi very well huh? I was getting 1700 degrees at 50 with it, it'd probably have to go up around 2000 degrees to get 60 psi wouldn't it!

Sorry to hijack the thread, but can they make half cut DVs with stock 131? If yes, where to get them cutted? I have 191s, but i'd like to try a little more..

Thanks,
Marc/

i just can't figure where you are getting the surge from. i have never had any surge issues with my 370. just a nasty idle. i mean it idles fine but it will gag you trying to hook up a trailer with it running.

i will see if i can take some picks of 181's, 191's and some cuts so you all can see the differance.

Theres that new era diesel shop that EDM's the holes on the 370's to narrow the pattern into the non-marine pistons. Might make them a little more efficient and get rid of the stumble. Im really curious myself since the 370's are cheaper than a lot of the other offerings at that power level.

A same set of 370 injectors can surge on one truck, on the other not, My 370s surged, i sold them and that truck has never seen a surging problem with the same injectors (the later one put on thiner washers)

gunracer1, what kind of DVs are yours? not the sheid ones who claim 100 HP? (from puredieselpower.com?)
so you dont suggest them?

i can't tell who they came from, i did some swapping for them and the guy i got them off of can't remember who they were from in the begining. they have a pretty good section cut away when you compare them to a stock 181 or even a 191.
i am running 20 degrees of timing right now and i don't have it oringed so i am a bit reluctant to bump it much higher.
and i do belive i am going to sell this truck here in a bit and get a 4 door. so if anyone want a nice strong truck with a dual disk and 6 speed look me up. i need a full 4 door the kids are getting 2 big for the excab.
