Weird FASS problem

Well I get in my truck this morning to go to work and it fires right up but I look down at my fuel pressure gauge and its at 0. So I shut it off and then bump the starter in order to get the pump to kick on, but I get nothing. So I got a ride to work and when I got home I hooked the volt meter up to it and I have power. So I tap the FASS motor with a hammer and it comes to life and its now working perfectly.

Has anyone ever experienced anything like this? The only problem I have heard about with the FASS is that the brushes wear out, could this be the problem, the unit is a little less than a year old.

Well I havent had a chance to pull the brushes and check them yet, but if the truck sits for longer than a couple of hours the FASS needs to be tapped on to get it to come to life, a pain in the butt, but once working there is no problems.

I think I remember reading something about the factory ground wire, through the stock wiring harness, not being very good? And that it is recommended to run a good ground wire directly to the frame?

I had some problems there. To be safe i would recomend running the hot from the relay and ground right to the battery. I also ran my triggers to the switch, but i was loosing signal from the ecm. I would check the brushes first. its a pretty good chance since it starts when tapped. Trust me, its much easier to check the brushes and find out there bad than to rewire the whole truck Been there done that !

someone lemme know if im wrong

i agree with mystery, anytime you can tap any elec. motor and get it to work , it is the brushes(so long as it has them ) that is what happens to most factory lift pumps too ...but you can't service them

check your brushes , blow them out if they look ok , make sure they move freely

You need new brushes. Replace both.
For now though, you could probably get away with sanding/cleaning off the spots on the brushes where it has been arcing.

This has happend to me before.

Just drop your pump, or if you can get to it, theres two black caps with phillips heads. Take those caps off but becareful the caps are fragile and the brushes are spring loaded. They should be no less than 3/16 long and should be somewhat straight.
If anyone cares to fill in where i left out
