water temp getting hot

any time I pass some one or race around town or angthing of that nature my water temp will start to climb. It never gets out of the white line box but I still don't like it. My egt doesn't get any hotter than 900 and that's up hill comp on kill peddle mashed into the floor board. Is there anything I can do to keep my water temp at the normal 190, I have replaced the water pump and thermostat

where is your egt probe mounted? that sounds low for having a comp and stock turbo.

it is mounted after turbo, which should only effect temps by 100 right?

You really need to mount it pre-turbo to get an accurate reading. From what I've heard its a much bigger difference than 100*.

Have you physically looked in-between the rad and Intercooler?? almost always when you have an over-heat issue its from a plugged rad, My truck was completely blocked except for a section the size of a dinner plate. I had to remove the rad and I spent 10$ at a carwash before the rad would pass clean water out the other side.

2nd gens have the blow by bottle up by the radiator. Most don't know it's under there and it gets too full and the fan sucks the excess into the radiator. Going to have to remove the radiator and take some heavy duty degreaser and hot water to it.

I have sprayed off the rad at the car was to see if it would help, it was pretty dirty but maybe I need to take it all the way out and clean it. What is the blow by bottle?

hey what all has to come off to get the rad off? Is this something that can be done in a day or a few hours or what kind of time does it take? I do have a full replacement bumper

Mine does it too. Started this summer after a sled pull. I tried to replace the t-stat and clean the rad out good but it still climbs up under a pull (going up hill or passing a car.) I just got to the point of if it dont get into the red, dont worry about it. I dont know what to tell you but if you figure it out, PLEASE let me know too.

unhook the upper & lower hoses, unhook the tranny cooler (if its an auto) remove the bolts holding the rad in, remove the overflow and windshield bottles, push the shroud back or remove (cant remember which I did) pull rad out and wash. it took a couple of hours, cleaning in the veh DOES NOT work

Removing the radiator also gives you the chance to do a coolant system service and replace the upper and lower radiator hoses.

temps post turbo can be 300 to 500 degrees different. I too will be cleaning my RAD before next summer as my needle moves around to much for my liking. My clutch fan does come on though at 3/4 so I know that is working and doing it job because it LOAD and I lose power and the temp comes right back down...

This is actually false... It's supposed to be within 6 inches of the turbo in the downpipe for an accurate reading. Check out the flat spots on a 2nd gen 12 valve downpipe. This has come from a VERY reliable source from Cummins.

But, since it's easier to drill and tap the manifold than weld in a bung to the downpipe, that's how people do it.
