Question Wastegate stuck?

Is it possible that a wastegate can stick partially open? My boost pressure seems to be slow building and doesn't go over 25psi even holding it at wot.
Is it hard to remove to check it visually?
Thanks for any responses and have a great day.

Ok. I have taken off the line to the waste gate and applied shop air to it and it seems the gate opens at 20 - 22psi. The lever seems to move about 1/4 of an inch. Is that enough? Is there no practical way to actually see if the waste gate is opening and closing all the way?

That sounds about right.......they usually open around that PSI........I'd say it's working just fine.

Thanks for the reply Nick. Why does it take until 3rd gear and really walking on it to get any real boost? Is something else holding it back?

could the low gears keep the boost down until the higher gears load up the engine, and the governor doesnot pull the fuel out as easy. That could just be BS anyway it is just an idea Jim

I'm kinda agreeing with that!! The first 2 gears are just to get you rollin, once you hit third it gives it a chance to actually work the motor a little more to gain more boost.

Now if you were to hook onto a trailer, you'd get a lot higher boost numbers in 1st and 2nd because you have a load. Or even if you were to stick larger tires on your truck, you'd see higher numbers also.

That's why some guys are saying swaping from 3.54's to 4.10's actually makes the truck slower. The 3.54's add a bigger pull to the motor to get the turbo to kick in sooner. Or at least that is my theory anyway
