How's it work??? I'm wondering if the stock wastegate remains closed until it reaches 20-22lbs. and then opens...or does it gradually open as boost increases until 20lbs. is all you can get. I recently installed a BD J-Hook and have noticed that I seem to create boost earlier and hold a higher boost at lower speeds/rpms. I was on the intersate cruise set at 70 on flat ground and was between 8-10lbs. the entire time. Sorry if this sounds stupid, just trying to understand some of this stuff. Thanks!!!

 

They creep open a little then fully open where ever they're set at. There are various mods used to help eliminate the wastegate from creeping open prematurely such as a manual boost controller. I've had simular results by blocking off my wastegate.

 

I run a cheapo MBC from boostcontroller.com-- it works very well and gave me full control over the wg setting.

FYI-- a mbc can only RAISE boost setting above the mechanical setting at the wg actuator arm. If you want to lower boost below that point, you have to adjust the arm to get the gate to open sooner.
