the496rocket, I have a 3 inch straight pipe and its pretty loud. My friend had a 5 inch straight pipe on his 04.5 and it was pretty loud but it sounded good and not obnoxious like my 3 inch. Now he has an 06 and he plans on doing 5 inch dual straight pipes with it when he starts adding more power. I plan on going with a 4 inch straight so i can get rid of the obnoxious sound and get a deeper one.
I can't sneak into town a get a beer at all... Everyone knows I'm coming... I can't sneak home late at night either...

That'll get it done. 5in will certainly make all the racket you want and personally I think it sounds really good.

I used a 4" downpipe, to a 4" to 5" adapter, 40" of 5" flex, a 5" 90 deg elbow, up a 5" chrome stack. You want loud? You got it. Just put it in 6th gear and run about 60 mph at 1600 RPM.....DRONE!!!!! Want loud? 5 inch all the way with a stack.....or just pop it out the hood like the pulling trucks. I like that the best....but DOT would never allow it!

as stated above 5" straigh pipe is much louder ...

i ran one for about 20k miles and heard tons of 3 and 4 inch exhausts and nothing, not even stacks came close ...

kinda along the lines of a megaphone ...

yo hoot had a 5 inch with a 6" tip and yowsa you could hear him all over muncie three years ago

Thumbs up

I'll cast my vote for 5", i just went from stock 3" straight to 5 " and there is no comparison! I keep setting off car alarms in the college parking lot!
Also, I made my own exhaust, I got all my parts from the local big truck shop.
I used a 4" to 5" reducer and whooped the 4" into 3" and put it on right behind the turbo , then i attached a 3 ft piece of 5" flex for the downpipe, and bought a 10 ft piece of 5 " pipe and used two 5" 45* bends and one 5" 90* bend to go over the axle, it sounds great. pretty cheap too , about $250 + time/labor , but i did it myself.

Stay with 3". Turn the down pipe upside down and have it point up (Need to cut a hole in your hood for this). Then have it come out of the hood a little past your roof. That will be like an "M-series" 2 1/2 ton military truck. And it will be so loud, you'll need ear plugs when it idles!

I know that very well... I drive a old millitary 2 1/2 fire truck with that configuration... Trust me it's VERY LOUD! You can't even think right anymore... It's impossible to hear anything when rolling at 55 MPH with your foot in the throttle...

But as for stack through the hood... I'm pretty sure that is illegal to run on the streets... Fine for the track though...

Just so we're clear, The 06 straight piped will sound NOTHING like the 99 straightpiped. My 98 4 inch straight right next to my buddies 06 4 inch straight is louder and sounds nothing like eachother.
And the 4 inch is plenty loud, but I'd bet a 5 inch would be louder
I've gotten many complaints on my 4" straightpiped....but i just say "thanks....that's what I intended!"
