Ok, thanks for the replys, I read somewhere on another exhaust post, that "too big of exhaust turbo back will cause turbulence in the pipe resulting in backpressure, taking away that power youve worked so hard to build up"

I know that a smaller exhaust will have more velocity cause the exhaust is moving faster out the pipe, so I can see where the exhaust will slow down the larger it gets, dont know about losing power though...

Me too...if you want obnoxious, stay with the 3" straight pipe

I know what that is like! Friends and family have told me they can always hear me long before they see me. I know my girlfriend can hear me about a mile away from her house.

the496rocket, I have a 3 inch straight pipe and its pretty loud. My friend had a 5 inch straight pipe on his 04.5 and it was pretty loud but it sounded good and not obnoxious like my 3 inch. Now he has an 06 and he plans on doing 5 inch dual straight pipes with it when he starts adding more power. I plan on going with a 4 inch straight so i can get rid of the obnoxious sound and get a deeper one.

I've messed with so many different exhaust systems on these trucks... I assure you, 5" is WAY louder than 3"

we just went from 3" straight to 4" turbo to axle and then 5" on my buddy's 01. it's so much louder you can't believe it! LOL!

the straight 5" on my old 97 would split your eardrums!!

my current setup is 4" to the transfer case, 5" to the axle, and 6" tailpipe. I don't think it's as loud as my 97 was, but I really think a lot of that is the turbo. the sps turbine chops up the sound so much! the turbine noise out of the exhaust is SO much louder than it was with my old HX40. I likey!

I know when I went from 5" straight pipe to miter cut stacks on my 97, everyone commented on how much quieter the truck was... instead of blasting the sound waves straight out the side so that they can bounce off of EVERYTHING, you're shooting them straight up into the atmosphere. MUCH quieter outside the truck

if you want the full effect, go all out and get the bullydog 6" kit. im running 5" downpipe, then goes to 6", the splits to dual 6" exhaust , and nothing i have heard comes close except my buddys 06 mega cab, which is running the same thing, but mine sounds a little better i think, i got more turbo whistle.

I think my 3" straight pipe sounds pretty good. I had my buddy drive it the other night down the road so I could hear it for myself, ha.

i would go 4" off the turbo, out the hood. no long pipe to dampen the noise. and you have a huge coal blowing stack coming right out the turbo!

gives an awful drone and is very loud, but i dont like the sound!! seriously, you cant hear as good afterwards (for a little while) lol

oh, and paints evertything under the truck with black, a drive on a rainy day washes it off again!

Based on what I am reading, I am leaning towards a 5" straight pipe. Who makes the best 5" system with no muffler? The one from sourceautomotive looks good, $400 doesnt seem bad, but of course I dont like the fact that it comes with a muffler. Magnaflow? MBRP?

I have the 4 inch aluminum MBRP, I have the muffler delete pipe just haven't put it in yet. But the MBRP fits nice and is well made, In a couple of years after I am done with school I might put in the 5" MBRP system, I like the idea of a deeper tone, and by that time hopefully the 5" system might be more beneficial power wise
