I did a couple at the dodge dealer......3 years ago, so this may be a little foggy. What we used to push the pump out of the gear was a small, maybe 4" wide puller, got mine at the zone. Two bolts into the gear, push on the pump shaft and....ping, out she comes. Really was nothing to the vp pumps when I was there. Maybe some others will chime in and confirm or deny my memory. I'm almost positive that's what we did. Now that I work on junky gassers I don't ever use that tool!! Should have stayed with the diesels.....paid by the hour.....what's that like??

Its pretty easy job. I used a magnet to catch the key on the gear. You can use a steering wheel removal puller for the gear. The easiest way to remove the VP44 is twist off the breather/blow-by connection on the gearbox cover. After that its easy. I numbered the injector lines and keep track of how the lines come off as there pretty twisted around each other. You will also have to prime the pump and injector lines at start-up.

Small steering wheel puller and it's done. I've got a set of instructions for the R and R of the pump saved to my PC. PM me with an email address if you need them.

Any small puller will work. Just a word of caution on my mistake. I was also changing a couple of fuel lines at the same time, so without thinking about it we just pulled the little blue line holders apart and pulled all the lines out. BAD MOVE. Not even the dealers could figure out how to put them back together, they just looked at me and shook there heads. I finally figured them out but talk about a Chinese puzzle, it was horrible. Check and recheck that key way when you put it back together. It will go in wrong and it will ruin that brand new pump.

could you just leave the lines connected together and pull them from the injectors?

Definately, leave them together. Just undo the bolts that hold them to the head and pull the whole wad of em out as one piece.

Pay special attention to the placment of the keyway, I've seen them get placed incorrectly and you'll have a no start, damaged key on your hand. JFYI
