VP44 question.
VP44 question.
how long does it usually take to kill a VP44 after a wire tap from a TST pm3. the reason i m asking is i already replaced my vp about 6 months and i have a 1 year warranty. so i figured i should hurry up and get a TST, so if the vp craps out i can get it replaced under warranty.
i dont plan on running it that hard since i dont have built tranny yet.
is there a certain time it will die after tapping it?
thanks dieselfan

i have a non fuel pressure related death. i believe the drag comp over worked the electronics and killed it that way. the truck still runs "ok" without the comp box in it. it lost some top end power, and has the P0253 code. it goes to the dealer next week as i only have 25 days of warranty left.
Don't tap the wire if you don't want to void the warrenty on that vp44,........ or forget the warrenty and tap it. It actually depends on who you bought the vp44 from on if they're going to honor the warrenty with a wire tap.
The competition boxes are the hardest on the vp44 because they make it work harder than the other boxes.

I wouldn't worry about it and tap that bad boy, just know that it may complicate your warrenty. Blue chip warrenties wire tapped vp's and II still offers a limited warrenty.
I'll let others comment on getting a tapped vp warrentied, but I doubt a normal tst would kill a new vp.

I just got a vp from II and they told me any tap totally voids the warranty. You can't hide a tap with a cover. All they have to do is pull the cover and look at the spot where the needle peirces the board. It's basically impossible to hide a tap of any kind from a pump rebuilder, they will know.
WELL the diesel shop that sold you the VP prob didnt reman the VP you got. SO it would be up to the rebuilder so say Yes or NO on the wnty. In most cases i would go with the no if you have a wire that looks tapped. When i installed stuff for a living...i was up front with any one that was getting a reman VP about the wire tap. If tapped, you were on your own. BUT i never once had an issue the 1.5 years I installed the VP's.
Here is some reading about VP44 failures and wire tapping, from Blue Chip:
