Which vp44 to buy?
Which vp44 to buy?
My stock vp finally took a crap at 141,000 miles. I have been researching the replacement pumps and I'm not sure which one to buy. I dont want another stock HO pump so I think I'm going to go with either an updated blue chip pump or a hot rod vp from industrial injection. I like the thoughts of the 80hp increase of the hr pump but dont some people have issues with these pumps? Any imput or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
I would just go with an so pump. The 600 extra bucks for the hot rod is kinda not worth the hp. With the box off you can feel a little bump, but with the box on i dont see a difference even on the lowest settings. Save the extra money for some injectors or a turbo and get more for your money.
The new trend is to put a so pump on in place of the ho pump so that your box will make more power, but if you plan on trying this make sure that they'll accept your pump as a core or there goes the savings

I just replaced mine with a stock VP-44 because when I asked about the Hot Rod VP-44 everybody told me the only difference is the FPCM on top of the pump (programmed hotter than a stocker, but no internal parts are changed)...and you can get some serious hp chips for that much extra money...
Yeah i do believe that an SO pump will work on an HO motor, alot of people were saying they wouldn't but i think that was because they would rather you buy one of "their" hot rod pumps for alot more$$$
Yes an SO pump will work on an HO but then your HO will only have SO power! or viceversa.
A HRVP has the best of both SO and HO parts to get you around 80 hp more than either stock. More fuel at higher pressure! Then if you add a box you will still get the extra power the box delivers. So if you have a HRVP and a Comp you will have lots more power than just a SO pump with a Comp. around 80hp more!
I don't know how any other brand HRVP idles but the II pumps idle like stock, if not you must have a problem somewhere, I had 1 install that had chewed the pump and aluminum shavings got in the injectors, it would idle fine sometimes then sometimes it would miss randomly other times.
After seeing dyno's and track times and what not I'm not convinced that the hot rod pumps are worth the extra money. Yes they might give you a little 80hp increase when your not running any boxes but for the most part when you start running boxes it turns into an SO pump so to speak and it doesn't give you the 80hp it originally gives you. Not to mention that there's not enough evidence on whether or not the hot rods will last longer than a normal pump. You've also gotta think that for $600 you could get a drag comp or a TST box that's gonna give you double the power that the hot rod pump can deliver and is also 100% adjustable for EGT control. Also remember that with the extra fuel you need extra air and your gonna need a boost fooler for that. Hot rod pumps don't boost fool. I say save your money and stick an SO pump on your HO and go and buy yourself a nice pretty fueling box with the money you saved.
I don't think they will last any longer, but the extra 80hp with just the vp change and for the guy that doesn't want to pierce the wire the HRVP can't be beat. I've installed a couple SHO and the guys just love them, they will not overfuel and cause high EGT, run around 1200 max.
I hardly use my Comp since I've put the SHO on.

I think if you just saved the extra money from the HRVP and bought a nice big set of Fourmula one injectors you would make more power and have a smoother idle and get better fuel milage.I see more people with SO pumps and big EDM's run better times at the track then people with a HRVP and big injectors.
Along with a Drag Comp or tst/smarty stack that is, not just a HRVP or Big Injectors
