Upgraded Stereo
Hey there, I am going to update my stereo in my truck when I renew the interior, I aint going to go crazy with subs, amps etc. I was looking at an Alpine Head unit model #CDA-9831 and then replacing my stock speakers with four JL Audio 6x9s. I was wondering if anybody here has any experience with these makes or even these models and if it is a good set up for classic rock, metal and hard rock?

I'd go with a set of 6.5" components up front and some 6.5"(factory size) in teh backs. That will give you some great sound. If you want it louder than that, you could put an amp on the front speakers. That'll give you some really nice, loud, crisp sound and will be perfect for your music.

Would the 6.5inch speakers work nicer than the 6x9s? I like the 6x9s because they have been around forever and they can deliver more than enough bass for my needs while still giving me loud, crisp, clear music....
As for the rear speakers, I planned on replacing the 6.5s with 6x9s so I have the same speakers throughout the truck and I am not sure if JL audio makes 6.5s, probably, ill have to check..

The 6.5 will be good for all around but if your looking for bass and dont wanna go with subs then I would go with 6x9 because they give out more crisp bass but also giving out crisp highs too.

You may consider 5 1/4" or 6 1/2" component speakers for both front and rear doors. This will give you a cleaner sound with crossovers to protect the speakers from lows. Then add a small bass tube, like an 8" when you get the cash.

I just installed a Pioneer 850 head unit, 4 6.5” on the doors, two MTX 10’s in a thunderform box under the back seat and a Fosgate 800W amp. Sounded awesome until my amp gave out (old amp). I go around blasting 7dust, Adema, Slipknot, Etc and it sounds incredible.

Hey there Royta, I was just on the Alpine website, looking over the specs and features of them both and they are exactly the same. I dont really need that colour changing ability stuff. I am going to my radio shop and going to ask them what their opinion is and if they can get that radio. Thanks for the info!

diesel_kid - What speakers have you decided on? According to Crutchfield, I will need to use 6.5's for doors, and 5.25's for the rear. Let me know what you decide on!

I am pretty set on the 6x9 JL audios, they are very nice speakers and I have only heard the best from them. I want to get just 4 of them to replace the stockers, for the doors, I will probably just need a spacer as these new 6x9s are quite a bit deepers, for the rear, I will have to do some cutting to make them fit.
I am just wondering somebody on here said something that the 6.5s will give out a crisper sound so I am going to look into that too. I aint too much into bass, or really loud, just when I do crank it up, I want it to be crisp and clear and not crap out on me, same with the volume low, I want a really nice crisp sound...
