Unnecessary wheel spin...results
I have to admit, I like seeing the smokey burnouts CTD owners do with their trucks.
But my simple question is...
On an auto, power braking, what is or are the major stress points in this action? (Not looking for sarcastic replies). Tires, rear brakes...but what gets the torture in the transmission? (Not looking for, "well everything gets abused").
If something were to fail, what is it?
Torque converter or....?
Same Q for a manual trans.
Thank you

Burnouts are incredibly stressful on the u-joints, torque converter, bands, tranny oil temp, differential spider gears, differential LS clutches, expensive tires..... and the list goes on and on. I agree that a cool burnout is pretty awesome looking but I cant afford to be like that anymore.
The burnout itself isn't all that bad IMHO, it's getting the wheels spinning that can snap shafts (input, intermediate) especially if the rear brakes are working well. Can make lots of heat very quickly in the trans, that really takes a toll on everything eventually. I've dumped the clutch a few times because of my inner child telling me to but haven't found any weak links yet.
