Twins with stock Hx35

Ive seen some guys post about running their stock turbos on top. Im wondering what kind of H.P. numbers are common with this setup? What would a good bottom turbo be? Would it spool up slow? Is it even worth it or should I look into a single setup?

I have been researching this exact thing. You can run your HX-35 in a twin setup. You can use an HT3B/26 (Turbos used on Cummins Bigger motors....like the N-14 and 855). This set up is sometimes refered to as Towing Twins. They are a good streetable setup that spools quick (If setup right) and can be run without upgrading your headgasket (its recomended)....if detuned to run under 50 PSI! haha....this is what i am looking to do...i dont want to exceed 50 PSI just yet....i am still unclear on how excatly how to do that.....i would assume with external wastegaits and Turbo Housing.....the other good thing is that the HT3B can be gotten for Cheap! I found a new reman unit for about $500!!! Used JY turbos can be had for even cheaper....just make sure its good!!! I could be off....but i though i saw that Jim Fumler did this set up and got around 700HP.....so you can make power with this...if you want and detune for a little less........go for it! Heck i am still learing about this twin thing....never had an intrest untill i heard that you can use your HX-35.

With the HX-35 and HT3B setup, a Tim Barber design (Timinva), I can put down in excess of 500 to the rear wheels with EGTs around 1400 max, at the drag strip.

I know that Schied and Haisley's twin turbo kit utilizes your original HX35 turbo, however it uses a different exhaust housing and second stage Borg Warner S4 series turbo.

So it looks like the HT3B is the way to go. Where can I get the plumbing and hardware for it? How much boost can they handle together. I want to go pretty big.

I've been researching this also and from what I've read the good one to get is a 'B'HT3B/26 but get the one with the un-divided ex hsg. Reason for the 'B'HT3B/26 it has a wider air map. Garrett# 144700-0000, Schwitzer# 167050.
Pardon my obsession with p/n#'s, I'm a parts guy

The "B" is preferred. It designates that the turbo has a MWE (Map Width Enhancer) on the compressor housing. It is not an indication of what turbine housing the turbo has.

one if this truck is a auto truck running a ht3b will require you to remove the stock tranny cooler not a big problem just something to think about . and if you are even thinking of going near the 55psi range get you some head studs from arp they are about 450 last i checked . idaho ctd on here makes a really nice piping set if you want or just put it together your self if you feel that you have the welding skills . good luck with the twins .

Maybe i could get some cheap turbo, from a bigger cummins engine. what engine does have the N-14 or 855 turbo????

and how much boost could i expect, with good fueling?
arent those turbos for about 25 psi max, and the hx35 for 30 psi?
would they make about 50 psi togeher? and how much HP aprox?

From what I've read and kinda understand, please anyone correct me, but if you set both turbos up for 25 psi of boost from each one you'll not see 50 psi total but higher maybe around 60-65 psi. The reason being is, from my understanding , the volume is more from the BHT3B or HT3B than the HX35 I think maybe close to double the volume. All of this big volume of air is still running through the same bottle necks i.e. the intake horn creating higher boost pressures. So you can have both your turbos set up at max efficiency say around 25 psi each and have 60-65 on the boost gauge. Hopefully HOHN will chime in here he has done extensive research on this matter.

The N-14 and 855 are both engines that the 3b comes on

The 3B turbo is a big turbo. You have to dump your heat exchanger. I just moved mine to the driver side and plumbed it in. 50psi of boost from a twins set-up is good for some decent power numbers. You'll probably good to the mid 500's. I blew my slightly modified stock tranny in about 2 days, only on 1X1 and my wire was unplugged at the injection pump. She felt like she pulled about 475rwhp, with awsome spool-up. I'm guessing that she spools as fast as my Hy35 did. I can't wait to try a catcher ecm to haze my tires even more. Twins are so sweet
