Twins!
Well, we had a busy weekend, but a ton of progress. I got a set of BD twins installed on my truck and head studs too. I'm really excited about the twins as I was REALLY smokey before with an Edge Comp, stock turbo and Mach 1.5's when I'd get on it on 5x5 (not bad just everyday driving though). With the twins on now, I'm pretty darn whisper clean on 5x5 unless I lug it down a little. I guess it's time for more fuel!
. We also got a set of ARP head studs installed and my confidence level is much higher with the additional boost I have now on my HO head gasket.
I have to say a big Thank You to Phil M (McMopar) for all of the hard work. He does this as a side business on our diesels and other autos and is very knowledgeable. For someone like me who only knows enough to be dangerous, he is great to work with so you learn as you go. We worked long and hard on these two pretty good size projects but I had a ball. It was great picking up some knowledge from Phil. Anyone within driving distance of Raleigh NC and needs a good diesel mechanic, check in with McMopar. He is very fair with his pricing too!
I'll keep everyone posted on the twins and how they perform. I think I'm going to step up some in injectors and I'll get a heavier duty intercooler boot kit. The stock boots don't seem to want to hold up to the additional boost.

PS. hard to say on the time it took since we did head studs at the same time. I knocked the freeze plug into the oil pan so we had to drop the pan to fish it out with a magnet and that ate up a couple hours, and the weld on the old downpipe was stout....took me a good hour to 1.5 hr to get the grinder after it, then the die grinder, then the torch. It probably took us 20 hours total over the weekend to do both projects on my truck plus Phil was helping my buddy Mike D swap out his vp-44 at the same time. I'd say if you didn't have freeze plug issues or downpipe issues and doing just the twins only you could do it in 8-12 hours in one day with a complete new kit. The only issue we had with the kit is that the compression fitting they supply for relocating the heater line along the block was not the right size. Luckily Phil had one that fit. That guy has some inventory in his garage! Oh, and plan on blowing factory inter cooler boots and reclocking the turbo and those couplings to get them all to fit right so the couplings don't blow.
If your running 5X5, with no smoke go bigger on the sticks. My truck just gives a little puff on 3X3, 5X5 I can black out the hiway. 5X5 should smoke some, regardless of injectors or twins. I run 3X3 all day. The BD twins are a great for towing but they cant move enough air for big hp numbers. They spool nice and are the ticket for trucks running around the 500 to 550 hp mark
Mike, how do you like the mach 6's? I want to up grade from the 4's. The install for me was 11 hours. It really isnt that hard, just a lot of different things to do. I used to hit 65psi and turned down the boost. After gear swap I can only hit 50 without turning the boost back up. So i lost 8 psi of boost. My temps only hit 1200. Time for more fuel. Plus I can turn the boost back up.

I love my mach 6 sticks. The power these things put out makes you think your driving a sports car. The truck I would guess would be a strong 12 second runner and gets decent fuel mileage and I drive her everyday. If you where close to me I would let you go for a ride. The intercooler tube keeps coming off after I hit 50psi of boost. Then power is gone. I bought a set of PDR intercooler boots and clamp kit. I have to scuff off the tubes to get everything to seal-up. I bought another set of injectors from dynamic diesel that are rated for 250rwhp. I'm not gonna put them in until I buy a nos kit. I want to crack the 1000rwhp mark with lots of drugs. I want to see how much the big bad cummin stock bottom-end will hold-up. I'm want to gonna break the 700rwhp barrier just on #2. I have about 5000 miles on everything now and still going strong.
I stalled my twins about a week ago at about 40psi. What a sound. A loud BAM. I haven't checked to see if I hurt the thrust bearing. I had to slam on the brakes after a idot changed lanes without signalling. PDR told me that it shouldn't hurt the HX-40 in the twins operation. I probably be the first to gernade a HX-40 running in a 3B combo.

That's why my 40 will be going to a new home as soon as I find time to fit an S300 in there
