Turbo question

Hi fellas,

I currently have a pdrhx-40 and still seem to high egts. I can peg the gauge fast if I don't let off. I guess my question is do you think that a bigger turbo is in order? Seems to have a lot of smoke at top end still. I don't do much towing if any at all and will be heading to Wyoming to take a job offer soon. Will I run into altitude problems with the current setup? What about a pdr hx-50? Too much lag? What about a 18cm housing? Sorry for all of the questions, just looking for advice.
I have not dynoed the truck but here is some of what I have:
0 plate, ATS exhaust manifold, 4k gsk, timing at 19*, 191 dv, 4 in exhaust and an AFE.

TIA

Cory

Re:Turbo question

With the #0 plate and 4k kit you still gonna smoke at top end. It would probaly be better if you ran the HX-50. An 18cm housing would work but to get a little more power just go with the HX-50. Although you will have some lag but thats just gonna happen anyway. Also what you could do is run 4" down pipe and 5" from down pipe straight back that would lower you EGT's. If that helps any sorry if it doesnt.
SD03

Re:Turbo question

Based on my experience, a zero plate and HX40 should be set up to run at 21.5 degrees timing to get the EGT to managable levels by controlling the burn better. Even at that, a hard pull or rapid accelleration will put you right against 1,450 degrees F in a few minutes, so you have to really watch it to keep it down around 1,250 degrees.

Extended running at 1,350 degrees pre turbo with synthetic oil seems to be OK, but I have coked my oil and plugged piston coolers by running dyno oil at those temps.

I run a 18 cm 40 stuffing a modified 60, and can exceed 100 lb manifold pressure, and still run the temperatures right up there in the danger zone in a real hurry if I let it rip. So, I really do not think a turbo alone can solve the temp problem.

Re:Turbo question

How much lag is there in the hx-50 compared to the hx-40? What about other differences?
What other suggestions can you offer for attempting to alleviate my dilemma?

Thanks

Cory
