Turbo Noise after Silencer Ring Removal
I have a 2nd gen 24v Cummins (98.5). I removed the silencer ring, and it made a huge difference. The turbo is so much more noticeable throughout all the RPMs, but now, whenever I am in the mid 2000 RPMs, the turbo whistle turns more to a rumble/deeper whistle. It doesn't even sound so much like a whistle at that point, I don't even know how to explain it other that a rumble mixed with a lower whistle. Is this normal after removing the ring? It happened immediately after removing the ring. Hopefully there was no damage done.

Removing the silencer ring does nothing but allow for a little more turbo whine. What you may be hearing now is what the turbo sounds like when you're "under the turbo". Its sounds like the turbo trying to spool but a much lower tone since there's not enough rpm to create the necessary airflow. If you have a manual transmission then this is most likely the sound you're hearing now.
