remove intake tube from turbo, abt 3/4" inside the turbo, you will see what looks like an internal snap ring, get in there with a screwdriver or somethin and pry it out of the ridge, just make sure not to hit the vanes, then the silencer ring will come out, kinda looks like a beveled ring

It's because they use ball bearings in their turbos.

Agreed, yank the silencer ring and toss it in the glove box.. (that's where mine has been for 9+ years).

Removed mine within a month of buying the truck new.. then spent a week moping around since I never heard any difference! Of course all of that changed when I put my hearing aids in to go hunting one morning.. imagine that, the turbo whine is above 850hz! Thanks to all the time spend with my Uncle Sam I've lost over 65% of my hearing (most anything above 800hz goes unoticed, oddly enough I think the wife's voice is 900hz or higher).

Its because they are VGT turbo's, not DBB. Duramax's and Cummins also have that high pitch whistle with VGT turbos.

I agree that it is b/c of the variable vane, but it does seem a lot more noticeable with a powerjoke for some reason
