Would it be a benefit or an upgrade , so to speak , to go from a WH1C turbo (on my 95 CTD ) to a HX35 ? Thanks!!

There is no real advantage between a WH1C and a HX35. The only real difference is the method the compressor housing is attached, the WH1C has a v-band clamp that holds the compressor housing to the back plate and the back plate bolts to the center section. The HX35 uses a snap ring to hold the compressor housing to the back plate and the back plate is cast as part of the center section.
